    Team Building and Power Creep
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

One of the most rewarding and addicting parts of DD is working on building your team. It's like working on the muscle car in the garage - every day you make it a little bit better, a little cooler and newer...you make gradual progress as you acquire new parts.

Unfortunately, that part of the game was pretty much blown to bits in July. Suddenly, your team was fully stocked with maxed-out players. Any change that you made to most positions felt like a lateral move, at best. Every once in a while, a "giant mega shiny toy" would come out (Chipper or someone) and you'd get that if you could swing it...but it's not the same reward as slowly working on improving the team.

Even though I adore all of the content that this game provides, this is the one aspect that I don't like. The abandonment of power creep plus "switch hitting meta" has made team building moot.

If they're going to go this route, we need a mode where we can build other teams. It misses the whole point if everything gets tricked out so quick - the fun part is building it at the beginning.

  • Steamin’ Hot Takes!!!
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

Hot take - SDS gave up on Team Affinity and the power creep to please casual players who have now left. We should just now be getting the 99s.

  • Content is in bad shape
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

I agree with the post. There's not much good reason to do stuff in the game right now. If you know how to turn on your Playstation and you don't choose to play NCAA, you can basically have a team of 99s. They badly need a Team Building or Salary Cap mode where you get rewarded for having collected all these other cards...so that you have a place to actually use the cards they give you. Also, yeah, why the heck would you just basically stop Team Affinity and end the rewards in that path at the all star game?

  • Neon is "fine", but...
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

Why is there no reward between Finest and #1 Fan Badge. Thats some very time consuming work to get those points - and you get nothing but a token badge for it? I don't understand that. Its not like it's a conspiracy or something - it would be a super easy fix. I just don't get it.

  • Who is the August retro lightning?
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

Anyone who has played Jim Rice or Gary Carter for more than an inning should get a prize mailed to their home. They are the true heroes.

  • Underwhelming
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

Whatever you might hate about this game...it gives you lots of content. It always amazes me when people want more content - how many hours per day you playin? Lol

  • Why?
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

So, Im legitimately not trying to be mean....but, if you can't beat Rookie, how do you beat anything else in this game? Like, everything else is tougher.

  • CPU is obnoxious
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

Ill agree wholeheartedly on the web gems - cpu is insane defensively. Defense is too easy in the game, in general - there should be more errors and bad plays, but then everyone would cry "rng made me lose!"

I will agree that Rookie is way harder in this game than any other sports game. But, the reason is that batting is very difficult - i feel like there are 1000 people in the world who know how to hit in this game (and Im not one of them).

  • Mini seasons in August
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

@BJDUBBYAH_PSN yeah, I don't know why people hate on the grind. The grind is the whole point of a trading card collecting game.

Do you want everybody to just have all the cards? The grind is one of the best gatekeeping methods - it rewards skill (because you can grind a lot quicker if you're good), but it doesnt lock you out if youre not super skilled. It also doesn't make you spend money.

Like, I didn't mind the multiplayer 200-hit grind. Even though I'm a way better offline player than online, it didn't take me that long.

Then we have people complaining about how long it takes them to do programs - when theyre all super short. I don't get this crowd that doesn't want to earn things by playing the game.

  • 40,000 XP
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

Love playing Events, but reward is too small for effort. I don't mind them encouraging people to play All Star or HOF difficulty- there isn't enough reward in most modes right now to go higher difficulty. An extra 2 percent chance inDQ? A small amount of pxp increase? It rarely justifies playing the higher difficulty

  • Gold Dynasty
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

I don't get why the power creep goes so fast. In a lot ways, the game plays better with gold players than diamonds. All of their line drives don't get caught, doubles and triples happen more frequently like they should, etc. Yet, every year it's like we are racing to get to 99s. Why?

  • Card won't ever play for my team
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

So, I think the first two or three weeks of DD is really fun - because almost every card you get, you think "hmm, this guy might play for my team".

By now, we are already at the point where almost every card (even pretty good ones), you're immediately like "can't see a way that card ever plays on my team". Like, you've only got do many spots on your team. Ill still play the card for fun here and there, usually...but it would be way more fun if I had a better use for them. (So I could be like "ok I can use this guy here" and it will improve this other team).

Its like an RPG where you do the side quests and get all that cool loot - then the game keeps giving you other stuff, and you're like "but this is worse...how do I use???".

  • SDS Please bring Team Affinity back
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

It's clear what happened. They expected more people to be further along on the TA path by All-Star break - when they realized many were not, they just handed out a bunch of TA points in Color Storm.

But this still doesn't explain why there are basically no TA rewards after All Star badge - there's the finest badge and that's it.

This would be very easy to fix - just release a TA2 path with more rewards for doing team-specific things. It really seems like they don't care about the offline grinders (like me) who enjoy this kind of path. Doesn't make much sense.

  • PSA - Flash Sale - 8/12/2025
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

Isnt it funny that noone actually buys the flash sale pack - they just direct buy the players whose value has plummeted.

SDS needs to make it a reasonable gamble to buy the packs - it should be like betting black at the roulette table, not a 90 percent chance of losing money...

  • I'm waiting until Friday to play again... where are you at?
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

Even as someone who only plays a couple hours every other day, I always get to the inning XP limit halfway through the inning. Even so, I do think it's good to just grind stub sources (diamond quest) and save XP, cause wheel spins are not exciting. Like, give us a Price is Right wheel - and don't just make it already determined, make it an actual game!

I also play hall of fame difficulty offline in the hopes that I'll suck a little less when I need to play online. But, sadly, the only way to actually be good at online is to just constantly play online (which is yucky to me). Like, my win percentage at 3-inning online events goes from 50 percent to 80 percent if I just play nothing but online for a week. Gotta get used to those outliers just teleporting their way to the plate....it's so sucky...

  • Who is the August retro lightning?
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

Its not that Gary Sanchez sucks, it's the switch hit meta and 15 other catchers and the power creep make this card useless, just like so many cards coming out now...

  • SDS has to be joking rn
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

The funny part is they promoted and teased Sanchez as if this is someone that anybody wanted. Seems do out of touch.

  • More Legends and Stadiums - more Storylines mode
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

It just seems like MLB could lend a hand and encourage lots of the legends and their families to participate. Wouldn't you want to be represented in a video game if you had the choice? A lot of the younger legends probably play the game.

  • Team Building and Power Creep
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

Yeah, if Events is the answer to this problem, it's a really bad answer. It should be a mode that's available online and offline - and requires you to design interesting teams. The restrictions and themes in Events are never interesting, and allow use of way too many cards (like...every player with an odd number!)...or they just focus on using whatever the most recently-released collection was.

  • Team Building and Power Creep
  • rubicante23_PSNR rubicante23_PSN

Also I hate playing 9 inning games online - and almost never wanna do it. Three innings is fine. I got kids and lots of distractions - hate feeling glued to one game for an hour (especially with all the lag and jank of online games)
