    Why do You play Franchise?
  • jjbyrd02_PSNJ jjbyrd02_PSN

Franchise mode is the closest thing to the real world of being a GM and a player. I always said to myself "man if I were in charge of my favorite team I'd make these moves or those moves." Franchise mode allows me to do that, and control nearly every facet (or at least what the developers provide) of a franchise and then play out those decisions on the field. Diamond Dynasty as some have mentioned is more like fantasy baseball, which isn't my cup of tea. Don't get me wrong you can still have the fantasy baseball aspect within franchise mode given there is a fantasy draft and if you manipulate the game in such a way can get results of a fantasy style of play. I know you said to stay away from the multiplayer thing, but given the fact that the way I play franchise is 100% not the way EVERYONE plays franchise is definitely why I stay away from DD. Multiplayer online also tends to be a toxic environment, so there's that too, which is why I was devastated when they removed online franchise b/c that was how you could play actual Franchise mode in a private league with friends who played with similar philosophies making it non-toxic and super fun.

But if you're talking about how to get more enjoyment out of franchise mode as it is now, I would suggest trying to keep your play in line with how a real life club would operate. For me I try to stay within the realm of realistic decisions and keep things on the hardest difficulty to mimic how hard it is to actually run a club. Just for example, when it comes to the amateur draft I could easily create a save point prior to the draft and see what players end up with high potentials and overalls and then go back and reload that save point and draft those players to totally load up my team. But I totally stay away from that type of play because I want to be rewarded for sticking to my guns and living with the decisions I make and getting better at the game. As another example my team right now is ranked, I think, 3rd or 4th in terms of the 5 overall ranking categories: Pitching, Speed, Defense, Power, and Contact. My power rating is 25 or 26 and it shows as my team has a very low number of homeruns. So I have to play to my strengths in order to be successful. I could easily manipulate the game and inflate my budget and trade and acquire a ton of power hitters but I know that's not in the realm of realism.

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to give you a solid in depth answer. Hope it helps, and hope you get more enjoyment out of franchise mode.

    Cheers!

I was called out by the 3rd base ump on this, and it happens constantly. You guys seriously need to address the check swing system because it is way off. Not even close to accurate or consistent.

@Beastmode28CM_PSN said in Coach and Scout tutorial popups:

Click on you inbox within Franchise mode. Then click on settings and turn off tutorials.

Unfortunately that doesn’t work. I have tried every single thing and any time I load into my franchise I get the tutorials all over again just as these others do.

Yeah, inbox > settings do not save. Once you sim a day or back out and come back in tutorials are switched back on.

  • New roster bug after update
  • jjbyrd02_PSNJ jjbyrd02_PSN

AA roster is at 26/26 but the game says its 27/26 when trying to proceed to play next game.

Only option is to auto fix which takes it down to 25/26.

    Please advise.

  • Any can’t locate with pinpoint it so inaccurate this year anybody got a solution?
  • jjbyrd02_PSNJ jjbyrd02_PSN

Don't forget the pitcher's "control" attributes will also affect location.

  • Feature Premiere - Franchise, MTO, Presentation, & Commentary (03/09)
  • jjbyrd02_PSNJ jjbyrd02_PSN

The changes to scouting and drafting are a definite welcome. This was a long time coming as that aspect of the mode was definitely lacking any sort of depth. The signing bonus adjustment is great. One thing I was hoping to see is each player’s draft position in recap so you can see where they were drafted after the fact. Being able to see who took the players is ok but knowing where a player was drafted is nice especially for records/history purposes.

Why not just sim the games?

  • Won’t be buying 23 or 24 or 25…..
  • jjbyrd02_PSNJ jjbyrd02_PSN

For you perhaps. I know for myself and many others it is.

It’s not a game breaking bug for anyone. A game breaking bug would be something like an infinite loop that is triggered every time by transitioning from one play or one menu to the next causing the game to crash or freeze.

What you’re listing here is an incredibly minor visual detail that, while annoying, is not literally preventing you from playing the game. Ergo it’s not a game breaking bug.

I understand that visually it’s not consistent with your standards and that’s fine. But at best it’s an inconvenience, not a bug, let alone a game breaking bug.

This is not a gamebreaking bug.

  • Bug - walks being counted counted as hits
  • jjbyrd02_PSNJ jjbyrd02_PSN

In franchise mode during gameplay when I pause the game the boxscore is counting walks as hits.

I’m wondering if thats causing stats to be inaccurate for pitchers. If so its a major problem that needs to be addressed for ‘23.

  • Pinpoint
  • jjbyrd02_PSNJ jjbyrd02_PSN

The thing about pinpoint pitching is very much based around the pitcher’s control attributes. The higher the value the more forgiving pinpoint will be. But don’t forget its not just about the motion of the stick but also the release point and the speed at which you flick the stick for release.

I’m not sure what kind of results you’re getting unless you’re able to post some video but I play on legend difficulty for pitching and I haven’t had any glaring issues with accuracy where the pitch location has been way off base compared to the control input.

If you’re able to record some examples post them up and lets see what you’re getting.

  • Difficulty Levels and realistic stats
  • jjbyrd02_PSNJ jjbyrd02_PSN

Try setting the hitting difficulty to dynamic. It increments the difficulty up or down depending on how you’re performing. But it will increment on a wider scale.

Think of it on a scale of 1-100 where for example if you’re at hall of fame level (1) and you’re crushing the ball it will increment you by x over y number of hits until you get to 100 and then it will jump you up to legend. On the flip side. If you underperform it will decrement down until you hit all-star.

This should help give you a better balance between one level and another. If Veteran is too easy but all star is too much setting it to dynamic should let you hover somewhere between the two.

  • Franchise suggestions
  • jjbyrd02_PSNJ jjbyrd02_PSN

Yeah myself and a few friends from work play connected franchise on madden every year. We were laughing histerically when we read that EA had that data loss and crapped out on 60% of their entire franchise base. I was so glad I didn’t give EA my money.

  • Franchise suggestions
  • jjbyrd02_PSNJ jjbyrd02_PSN

I totally get/know where you’re coming from. But as someone who has played franchise modes of other games, specifically EA titles, I can say without question MLB is far and away light years ahead of any other sports game.

Madden and NHL are absolute train-wrecks to the point where I stopped buying their garbage two years ago after playing consistent year after year. Specifically their franchise modes which when it comes to bugs I could write a series of books.

So while I understand that in terms of MLB standards a lot of people may be unhappy with MLB’s franchise mode lagging behind, its still far and away the best franchise mode I’ve played for any sports option out there. Still I agree with you though there is a lot left to be desired with MLB and even some very small tweaks could go a very long way.

But for now, like you said, just have to see what they do year to year and if something seems like it makes it worth grabbing we can certainly do so.

  • Franchise suggestions
  • jjbyrd02_PSNJ jjbyrd02_PSN

I realize that ‘23 is on the cusp of release so my suggestions here are late for this cycle but since I’m also brand new to the forums I figure I’ll put in my two cents.

    Trade features:

    • Cash considerations
    • Player to be named later
    • More pieces to include per trade
    • Active trade offers - trade offers should be a back and forth affair and should be able to be withdrawn by either side. When the trade deadline hits there should be offers on that day.
    • Trade logic - suggested trades should reflect trade block settings a bit more accurately

    Player options:

    • Indicator for what players have used an option during the current season
    • Notification during sim and manual progression before start and prior to end of spring training to call up and send down players to prevent unwanted options from being forced/used

    Free agency:

    • Popup notifications when a FA accepts and signs with your team
    • When players you have qualified sign with another team there should be an indication of when it happens and what draft compensation is awarded

    Draft:

    • Should be able to see draft order prior to draft
    • Prospect rankings : I’ve always been curious as to why prospects have no ranking. No consensus #1 overall?
    • Scouting should be utilized throughout the entire prior season, not just the 2-3 months prior to the draft.

This is all I can think of for now. I’m sure some of these have already been suggested at some point. I know franchise mode is built on legacy code so its not likely that much happens with it in its current state and these suggestions will likely not make the cut.

But there’s no crying in baseball.

    PLAY BALL!!!

  • Over/Under Number of New Features for '23 Franchise
  • jjbyrd02_PSNJ jjbyrd02_PSN

One thing I’d like to see is an indicator of whether or not a player has had an option used during the current season. It tells you how many options have been used in total, but not whether one has been used during the current season. Sometimes its hard to remember who has had one especially since the cpu automatically calls up and sends down players during spring training.

  • Over/Under Number of New Features for '23 Franchise
  • jjbyrd02_PSNJ jjbyrd02_PSN

I could be totally wrong, but based on what I have read...franchise mode is built on legacy code which is why it has lagged behind other modes like March to October and Diamond Dynasty. Modernizing that code would be a huge undertaking and require a lot of time and resources that simply won't be allocated to the developers. Rather than do that, what you'll probably see is them take March to October and use that as their means of providing a modern franchise mode.

It's a scary thing to think about because it could make franchise mode players feel alienated and give the indication that they're trying to phase franchise mode out of the game completely, or at the very least just continue to nickel and dime the mode from year to year adding just enough to keep us coming back.

I truly hope I'm wrong as franchise mode to me is the most pure and authentic way to play the game. You get to do all the things you see happening within the real world of MLB. I love baseball and I love MLB the Show. My hope is that they might build a new franchise mode from the ground up taking what they've done with MTO and using it to build a true modern franchise mode. I'd be more than willing to endure a full dev cycle without any additions to the legacy code to allow them the time to do it.

But who knows what they might do. Baseball is baseball and compared to other sports games MLB is far and away the best. EA is a trainwreck and I refuse to give them any of my money. The Show is what I look forward to every year.
