So I tracked my perfect/perfects over the last two weeks.
  • eatyum_PSNE eatyum_PSN

I did this to try and see how well the actual stats compared to what my mind thought they were.

    First I'll note the limitations.

I did not differentiate between perfect/perfect groundballs, liners etc. The reason I did this because we all know the graphic that SDS showed from the beta, it didn't differentiate either, so I stuck to that format. I did however put it in two groups, hitters with 80+ power, and hitters with 79 power or less.

55 also may not be the best sample size + most of this was gotten in the event, since I only played a couple ranked games.

    Results:
    80+ power - 47 perfect/perfects, 44 hits, 22 home runs, good for a .936 AVG
    Below 80 power - 12 perfect/perfects, 8 hits, 3 home runs, .667 average.

Total: 59 achieved, 52 hits, .881 average, 25 home runs

I definitely did not think it was that high for me, shows I had a major disconnect between what I thought was happening, and what actually was.

  • The Honus Effect - The current status of the market
  • eatyum_PSNE eatyum_PSN

So for those of you that don’t know, I am obsessed with the market, I love observing trends, seeing how content affects the marketplace etc.

I’ve been tracking the gradual rise in the marketplace since the last time there was a flash sale. Prices have risen steadily since around 7/3. They aren’t quite at the levels seen in late June, (with a few notable exceptions like the PS Damon being higher than late June). but they are starting to get close.

Even on cards that are quote “unusable” at this stage. For example, the 95 Awards series Jason Heyward, he isn’t really seen anymore on teams besides all-time ones. On 7/03 he bottomed out at below 9k. As of 7/14 he is above 15k if you were to buy him without placing an order.

So why are we seeing all these cards rise when they clearly aren’t being used for ranked anymore? The impending Honus collection has been messing with the market for a while. Remember last year when it was dropped out of the blue and all those golds shot up in price? Well, some of the earlier golds are already at high levels, no one is buying 83 PS Johnny Damon at 15k because they want to use him, they fear he will shoot up more when the collection drops.

I track my sellable inventory on a day to day basis as a hobby. It helps me look at the market as a whole. I want to use it as an example here. Now I want to note LS prices are not considered, I’m simply looking at flashback and legend prices.
As of 7/10, I had roughly 2.6m worth of cards I can sell (after-tax)

When I added it up last night (7/13), it was at 3.24m (after-tax). Now, I had to subtract newly acquired inventory which would affect the numbers, I had bought 192k worth of cards. That leaves the increase at 454,000 or 17.45%. In the period of three days, the market based on the cards I have rose by that much (I am mostly just missing all the BR cards at this point + a few headliners that I’m waiting to buy until prices subside).

So where am I going with all this? Well, remember how gold prices continued rising when TA3 approached only to tank hard when it was released? I think we are heading towards that same cliff here. I think prices may actually drop on most cards if and when the Honus thing gets released, we won’t see the crazy spikes we saw in 2019.

Now that theory is based on it being Honus or a similar type player. And if there are any flash sales beforehand, it would obviously drop prices too.
Of course, if something crazy were to drop, like a Barry Bonds, I would expect prices to rise even further. But I think that’s pretty unlikely.

For those of you who got this far, thanks for listening to my thoughts, do you think my summarizations are incorrect, do you have any theories on the future of the market? I would love to hear different thoughts on this subject.

  • Too many pitchers who throw sliders every darn pitch
  • eatyum_PSNE eatyum_PSN

No pitcher in the world uses sliders almost every pitch because real life batters wouldn't chase it over and over. If a pitcher knew he could get every batter to chase it consistently, a real life pitcher would absolutely throw it every time.

Speaking of rules; you can't post gamer tags on the forum.

Sounds like the OP needs more time reading the written rules.

  • Some stuff I'm slowly realizing
  • eatyum_PSNE eatyum_PSN

I love to grind, I love to chase after things, I need goals to keep me entertained. Now I don't think the gameplay itself is awful, but it's not enough to keep me playing like I used to. Some people love the new reward structure, some don't.

I'm in the camp of I like the attempt of something different, but when they pulled the line, "We noticed people were finishing the ws program and selling the rewards to use the stubs elsewhere", I get it, that was happening and you want to reward players who make it to WS by getting to 900 but it's obviously between the lines to was 'well they didn't need to buy stubs they were getting it from rewards".

I still play, I don't think I'll ever quit, but my days don't consist of 5-7 hours on my day off playing mlbts anymore

@CanucksNoCups said in Stealing online vs anyone remotely good is impossible.:

Its realistic for a super speedy guy to take an extra step leadoff it's what they do. It's not realistic to throw to that base 30 times.

It's pretty realistic for pitchers to keep speedy guys close. Because in real life if pitchers throw over a couple times, the runner doesn't just take the same lead everytime, He'll stay a little closer to the bag if he knows the pitcher is watching.

  • Thanks SDS for making my decision on the 10th inning easier.

My 10th inning decision is easier to, I've decided to take Pujols in the boss pack, it was a long and carefully constructed thought process that led me to this revalation

  • Griefing Rule
  • eatyum_PSNE eatyum_PSN

I can honestly say in my entire MLB the show experience, I have never walked 5 batters in one inning.
And if you did, you were probably going to lose anyway.

  • WS players are mediocre on a level playing field
  • eatyum_PSNE eatyum_PSN

Are you being sarcastic? A 3 inning game tells almost nothing about who is more skilled. A 3 inning game is way more prone to randomness winning out.

  • Have to give SDS Credit. They are better than EA.

@TooGood3434 said in Have to give SDS Credit. They are better than EA.:

    Eh. Lol. Hhmmm. Uuummm.

    No.

Content is nice but gameplay is the problem with this series. Unfortunately, this franchise will never be better than EA's MVP Baseball or SNES Ken Griffey Jr. baseball.

This game tries to be a SIM but can't even do simple things correct. Look at moments, in an AL game the pitchers are hitting.

Simple things like that is the shortcomings of this series.

To be fair though, EA's MVP baseball didn't have to support online play the way it is now in the modern era, additionally if EA had continued the MVP franchise, they would have treated it just like Madden and it would be in the dumps right about now

You can't say EA is better at baseball games by comparing a game they made 15 years ago, that was a different time in gaming.

@el-fiama-bianca_xbl said in we need to be able to see our opponents lineup before online games...:

No clue why this isn't already a thing. Cause In real life it's not like your opponents lineup is a secret..

All I really care about is the pitcher. Not being able to see their pitcher is ridiculous and can dramatically screw up your game.

For example I have Harper, Griffey, Ohtani, Seager who are all lefties and I start them every game. But if my opponent is starting a LHP, then I wont start all 4 of those guys cause my bench is really deep and I want to be able to play matchups later on in the game if I have to.

But since I cant see my opponents SP, I am forced to either start my lefty batters against a LHP and be at a disadvantage. Or I can put myself in a better position and once the game starts i can substitute in my right handed batters but then I lose those left handed hitters the rest of the game.....

It's absolutely stupid and makes zero sense to not show the pitcher.

It makes sense if you played DD several years ago when this was a thing. Lefty pitcher would see 8 righty hitters. Righty pitcher would see 8 lefty hitters. You need to be able to hit same handedness and I think this way is better than the old way.

Okay well you dont have enough roster spots to do that and it's not like you can back out and change your squad around?? Regardless.... baseball is literally a game of matchups.

In real life MLB teams can't just swap out players at will and have to build a balanced team. Sorry but not seeing the pitcher makes our teams and lineups more realistic, not less. Real life can't just stack the greatest 8 lefties of all time.
