It would be cool if they made pitching fun, and if they have time also make hitting fun.

It happens when save scumming. I know because I save scum, because this game is infuriating.

Ah, I was under the impression March to October was a single season mode. Not sure where I got that idea. So I should promote people in the hope they will be better than my current starters in subsequent seasons? I still don't fully know how to get a good picture of what my team is good at/lacking but I'll keep those things in mind!
-
What are the benefits and how do I assess them? What are the downsides to just letting the game manage the lineup automatically?
-
I'm following baseball for the first time this year, due to this videogame, so I don't really know how trades/call ups/lineup changes work in real life. In this mode though, I keep getting asked if I want to trade for new players, and also what attributes I want to trade for. I don't really know how to assess this, and especially with call ups the dudes on my team already seem strictly better. Do players get injured or something if you don't change lineups? It hasn't happened yet. I don't see why I would ever take the time to manage my team.

I officially cannot get stealing to work. I've tried holding LT, tapping LT, pressing direction on left stick and tapping LT. The runner won't move, except sometimes they run way before the pitch if I'm holding it and get thrown out. Am I in control or is it a suggestion tied to stats?

@toeter83_psn said in How to steal in non-player locked games?:
Point Left stick towards base and press r2
Is it L2/LT? And when do I do it? I have been inputting that and nothing happens.
-
I've mostly played RTTS but have been playing March to October lately. I genuinely don't understand the base stealing inputs. The game tells me to tilt the left stick (which I also use for hitting, so inconvenient) toward the base then press left stick. I do this as the pitcher is winding up and nothing happens. I have also tried just hitting left trigger and often nothing will happen, but sometimes the base runner will attempt to steal very, very late and get out.
Can someone explain what I press, and when I press it? Do I have to swing my PCI all the way to the right as the pitcher is winding up, then suddenly readjust? Should the runner go as soon as I press the trigger?
-
The pause menu says trigger is dive and right button is jump. I've tried diving plenty of times and nothing ever happened. I'm playing infield so haven't felt like I've needed to jump. However, just experimented with the right button, and it makes me dive. Is there an error in the pause menu? When do you use trigger (or R2) while fielding?

I do know how to work around it. I'm doing fine, I just want the information to improve. And also because I want to understand the degree of randomness. I do the same thing and either get a double or get a pop fly that is easily caught. I can't gauge the consistency unless the game gives me information.
-
Cool glad to hear you're not against additional information even if you're not going to use it.
I know what pitches I can hit, I just need to understand where my PCI placement was in relation to the ball when I get a hit or an out. Because the game has no PCI sensitivity, I really struggle as with any game I've ever played I always need to turn down analog sensitivity. Again, really happy that you're ok with the game being accessible to more people by giving options for people who want them!

The mode is fun, but there is some jank and some frustration points.
This might be an issue with batting in all modes (I only play RTTS), but if you achieve contact and are running bases, the batting analysis indicator disappears almost immediately. It is impossible to watch the ball and assess your swing simultaneously. The screen should stay up longer or be viewable in a swing history in the pause menu.
If a teammate hits a pop up, it's not easy to know if it's going to be caught or not. If you are running bases, the camera swings around and you might not know if a ball was fielded on the bounce or caught, so you don't know exactly how you should run the bases. There should be some indicator on screen similar to "in field fly rule."
Similarly, if your "third base coach" is telling you to run bases, this should also appear on screen similar to "manager says to steal base." It's not easy to use the camera in this mode to know if a ball has been caught, fielded, or fumbled. I've had so many outs simply from lack of information, and even more available bases not taken because I had to be cautious.

The lack of responsiveness is really messing me up now. I tap the button after picking the ball up now, but nothing happens (it feels like almost a whole second lag between button press and reticule appearing?) so I tap it again, and it cancels the throwing reticule. I don't know why I'm really struggling with this, never had a problem last year :/. Is the reaction time just really slow for a new character and I forgot about it?

I played a bit of MLB the Show 21, not enough to be super experienced, and I only played Road to the Show. Started Road to the Show 22 and on several occasions now I preload a throw but can't get it to work. Is there a timing thing? Is preloading different in RTTS than other modes? If I hold or tap the button before I field the ball, I end up just standing there with the ball in my hand.

I think I'm just having trouble moving my character in general. I am playing shortstop and when the ball is hit towards me the game puts arrows on the ground. But if I push the left stick in the direction of those arrows (I presumed to recover the ball and make a play), my character is incredibly slow to respond. I have caught or recovered some balls hit nearer to the character model, but anything even a few steps away gets past me. My character takes a few fumbling steps, tends to stop suddenly, awkwardly spin around. Is there a run button I'm unaware of maybe?
-
I am regularly getting tagged out because instead of stopping at bases when I stop moving the left stick, my character just keeps running. Then I try to double back but the animation is incredibly slow, and sometimes he'll disobey me and continue running to the next base only to get tagged out. How do I get around this issue? Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
