    Same Old Gold 1 Question
  • AllStar2653_PSNA AllStar2653_PSN

I’m going to reach Gold 1 tomorrow and I’m really unsure who to take.

    My lineup currently is:
    2B: Sandberg
    LF: Eddie
    3B: Bohm
    1B: Olson
    SS: Correa
    CF: Kelenic
    RF: Robert
    😄 CAP

I wanted to take Larkin and move Correa to third but Bohm took over that spot. I thought about Posey but I haven’t heard enough good things about him to validate taking out my CAP and Minoso just won’t fit in my lineup all of the positions he fills are taken by guys I’m not sure he can replace. I guess I could take Reggie to fill in Eddie’s spot, but I hate bad outfield defense so idk. Anyone have any thoughts?

I got a 97 Wade Davis near the end of 17, but since then I don’t think I’ve gotten a gold.

    @Dudeman22_ said in Why AllStar:

I guess I get the difficulty change, but it’s frustrating to go from word series last season to losing to scrubs the next because the games on Alastair difficult and there’s virtually no skill gap

You know it only brings World Series down to 700 now not 650 like it used to be so you usually play on HOF.

Was trying to earn rewards for the April program and got 5 stars over what was needed but wasnt given tge points and the jackie robinson program doesnt have enough stars to get diamond Jackie.... Just was curious as to why?

You’re only looking at Stage 1 for Jackie if you use R1 you can see stage 2 that has all the missions to finish the program. Whether or not that card is worth it is a different question.

  • Hitting the fastball
  • AllStar2653_PSNA AllStar2653_PSN

Last year, you could definitely get away with playing on game mode on a TV, but a monitor was still better. I went from CS to WS last year when I made the switch. This year I could not imagine playing on a TV. On HOF on a monitor you have to sit dead red to hit fastballs and still you’ll be late sometimes. On a TV you must have to swing as the pitcher is releasing the ball to make up for the input delay.

  • Issues while trying to steal a base
  • AllStar2653_PSNA AllStar2653_PSN

Since the last update, I’ve noticed that this happens with a higher frequency. Players will stop and try and run back to a base whether it’s stealing or on a throw from the outfield and the fielder just sits there stuck at the bag waiting for a runner that never comes.

  • Best hitting advice
  • AllStar2653_PSNA AllStar2653_PSN

The best tip I can offer is look for one pitch until you get to two strikes. I personally sit on inside fastballs a lot and don’t swing unless I get one or I think I got one. It helps me to lay-off pitches even ones in the zone that I can’t consistently hit. The more pitches you see the more you can see what pitches the opponent relies upon and then sit on those pitches. It’s all about understanding your opponent. As far as timing goes I watched mcgunskis video about timing the pitcher and it was very helpful. He can explain it far better than I can tho so I’d say watch that.

  • Best Feeling Ever
  • AllStar2653_PSNA AllStar2653_PSN

You shouldn’t assume anything from a person’s lineup. Honestly, I have seen players with all gold teams that are far better than the players with stacked teams that pay money. Now those teams can have an advantage because they are so good but it doesn’t affect the player’s skill level.

    19 was better.

Now hear me out on this. 20 has the potential to be better, but where it stands right now it is absolutely not(it’s not at 18 level yet). The hitting for the first week or so was amazing in 20. When you squared balls up, you were rewarded. It may have been a little bit over the top, but it felt like a couple of small adjustments (especially to pitching) could make the game great. However, the next patch ruined the game in my opinion. Now, even when you square the ball up you get a lot of good okays and only some good goods or good squares. You essentially need to get perfect perfects to score and the game seems to just hand those at random. Somehow SDS ruined the timing window with this patch and now hitting on HOF is brutal. It feels like legend last year and that was not a good experience. Every game seems to 2-1 or 1-0 because everyone and their mother uses Kluber or Newhouser and they are ridiculous on HOF. You have to sit dead red even with a monitor with a good response time to hit the fastball and adjusting to the off speed is just not an option. Pitching on the other hand is an issue and not an issue at the same time. It is an issue because it feels exceptionally hard to locate on the corners of the plate, but it’s not an issue because well look at what I said about hitting, even when you square one up it’s not going to reward you. Lastly, the fielding is an absolute issue. I like the edition of the faster throw meter and the perfect throw line, but the glitches and straight up misses from good fielders is ridiculous. I understand not everyone is Willie Mays, but goddamn almost all MLB players can field at a decent enough level.

In 19, hitting was obviously better than 18, but there were issues. Obviously, the check swings and the foul balls were major issues that never got solved. There was also the infuriating bloop hits that happened quite a bit and of course the line outs. The line outs last year were pretty brutal. Some games you just knew it wasn’t your game when you’d hit everything hard, but get nothing to land and your opponent would string together a couple of bloops and you lose by one. However, for the most part the game acknowledged when a ball was squared up and you were rewardedish for it. I personally loved the pitch speeds last year. All star was a [censored] show, but once you made it to HOF it felt perfect. On legend, it was a bit difficult, but I didn’t play too many games on legend because I’m not a god like the mcgunski’s of the world. The pitching last year felt very good. I know high sinkers were spammed, which still happens, but you could locate pitches. I was never an amazing pitcher, but there were certain pitches that I knew I could always go to and they wouldn’t be hung. The fielding in 19 was pretty solid for the most part. Urgency was still an issue, but that hasn’t been fixed (for the fourth year in a row). The animations were relatively clean besides Griffey. (Also can they bring back the black strike zone and not the stupid white one from this year)

Overall, 19 played a lot cleaner than 20 does rn and unless it changes I don’t know if I will stick with this game the whole year like I did last year.

Im 39 and 27 and I've never lost so many games and felt like I could lose every game or to anyone since I first started playing DD as a scrub. I already feel like a loser getting shutout with diamond hitters i should be hitting with and I've made world series every season last year but I can't win more than 2 games, I'm averaging like 1, 2 or getting shutout by Oswalt everytime I'm on the road, and I feel like my skills aren't giving me an advantage. I usually can ignore alot of BS and lossss where I get screwed over but I literally can't play without getting shutout once by Oswalt or having a game where i can't string together hits. I'm thinking about getting COD or My Hero to make up for me wasting my money apparently. Any tips on how to not get shutout by Oswalt or hit better in low scoring games cause I've never hit this badly in my life in the show. Im batting 275.

Honestly, I was in a pretty bad slump for the past week or so. My record dropped a decent amount before I took a couple days off. I don’t know what I did to get out of it, maybe the days off helped, but I came back today and I felt like I was back to being decent again.

@joshjays44 said in I need some tips (Caution Rant):

You're batting .275!!!! That's good buddy. Is it because you're playing DD and you expect to score 10 runs a game and hit 3 home runs? That's the problem with DD, everyone is playing for football scores. If your team is averaging .275 in Franchise you're basically a playoff team.

That’s an average batting average tbh. If you want to be competitive you have to bat at least .300 or be an amazing pitcher (which has not helped this year).

  • Fastballs are too quick.
  • AllStar2653_PSNA AllStar2653_PSN

It’s really not that hard to hit a fastball if you’re sitting on it. It could be the screen you’re using though. If you have a tv it often has input delay unless it’s on game mode. That input delay puts you a little bit behind what is actually being processed, so it makes a lot of things seem faster. Last year when I switched to a monitor from a tv it made a huge difference in my timing. I no longer had to sit dead red the entire time and could easily adjust to different pitches. It helped me go from DS to WS in a matter of a week or two.

  • Eddie Matthews LF
  • AllStar2653_PSNA AllStar2653_PSN

He’s serviceable in left, but I wouldn’t go past that. I only have him there because I have a plethora of infielders and that flexibility means another good bat in the lineup.

Still getting an unbelievable amount of balls in the center area of the PCI for Good Okay fly outs. The jump in EV they said they tweaked has been unsubstantial and I have yet to see any proof of it. Pitching is fine however. I honestly feel like this was a placebo patch to shut us up lol. I want to grind this game but I’m scared I’m going to either punch a hole in my TV or snap my controller. I think I will be taking some time off of this game 😂

I played a few games already and I hardly had any issues with squaring up balls and having them be good okay. I think everything I squared up was good good or better and they all were hit pretty hard. I know it’s a small sample size, but it felt a lot better.

Guess not in Showdown when free cards are on the line. Fine tune those settings to make OFs bring back Perfect Perfect Fly Balls. Gleyber hits a PP and was robbed by Keirmier with 1 out left in Showdown.

The threshold is for that to always happen is 80 power not 70.

Have you gotten a good squared or Perfect Perfect yet? Because the sound just turns off when you get either of them... I dont know if its me or the game..

I think that one is just you because I have played a few games and hit a decent amount of squared up and perfect perfect balls and it never happened.

This patch is trash. Instead of giving a ""slight"" increase on pitch accuracy on perfect releases, give it a CONSIDERABLE increase on pitch accuracy.. Come on SDS

I completely disagree so far this patch is great. I almost pitched a no hitter in last game with Snell, who is not easy to locate with and hitting feels a lot better now. In the three games I’ve played today, pitching has felt a lot better.

It's the worst man. I saved a clip of thee most incredible diving catch I've ever seen by 72 OVR RF Harold Ramirez (57 fielding, 56 reaction) on veteran difficulty. As soon as the ball hit the bat he was at full speed and then managed to get up and rocket the ball to the cut off. Like why?

I know that a player like this shouldn’t make these levels of plays that often, but they can still happen. It’s not like bad defensive players never make amazing plays in the MLB. Also, I feel like people get worked up about one or two of their outs being taken away, when they have 15 or 20 to work with. They need to focus on some mistakes they made and not just that the computer robbed them of 5 or 10 percent of their outs.

What happens when we reach past 70 points in the program and then go over do we start farther up on the next levels or is all of the points just gone to waist

The points don’t go to waste. You will just have everything unlocked up to the number of points you have once the next tier gets released.

No, you won't. You can only get to 70, the devs have stated this

My bad glad I just checked that though, so I didn’t waste my time.
