Disussion Time - Best overall squad
-
So this is the lineup my program comes up with for best overall squad currently. Obviously this is a program so it is just crunching numbers and doesn't or can't add any value based on which players have good swings or bad swings, nor does it give any value to being a switch hitter (I have a separate best switch hitter lineup report).
It does it's best to fill the spots, taking into account secondary positions (which is why Albert is in RF and Jackie Robinson is at 1B) to create the best overall lineup of 9 players. It takes into account hitting, fielding and speed (and blk/pop time for catchers).
For pitchers I know people have preferred pitches but again that is way to involved for my program. It does however place some value in Speed Differences between pitches and average break of all pitches. But that is a small amount in comparison to the attributes

I can see that. Tatis got pushed out by the optimizing of the lineup and the program deciding RF was the best spot for Pujols. It then uses the best offensive alternative left over at DH and that is Manny.
Trout and Beltran look really close to me (especially in hitting). My program gives the nod to Beltran, although without doing the math I am unsure why. I am guessing Defense plays a part as the formula does use FLD, REAC and ARM
Hitter Meta Score Formula:
Contact (Avg L/R): 20%
Power (Avg L/R): 20%
Clutch: 15%
Speed: 10%
Fielding: 10%
Reaction (Fld) / Pop & Blk (C): 10%
Vision: 10%
Arm Strength: 5%

@Dolenz_PSN Beltran’s power vs right puts him out of this conversation for me. Same with some of the other top cards like Bernie and Turner. VMart > Campanella for me. I couldn’t even use Pedroia vs the CPU. His lack of power is frustrating. Ketel needs to be in the lineup. If I had Jackie, Ketel would DH.

I can understand that. People weigh the attributes in their own way. It's entirely possible, or even likely, that the weighting of the attributes in my program should be changed.
Based on the comparison image though I would probably use them differently. Beltran possibly as a lead off guy to get on base and maybe steal a few bags and Trout like in the third or 4th spot to hit HRs and drive guys in.
