Co Op RTTS
-
I’ve been playing Road to the Show for years, and for many years I have had this idea I wanted to share that builds on what RTTS already does well, immersion and player attachment, while adding a true “play with your friend” experience.
The idea is a co-op version of Road to the Show, where two created players progress together on the same team as a paired group of prospects, starting in the minors and moving up through the organization together.
Each player would fully control only their own character. When one player isn’t directly involved in a play, they watch from immersive perspectives like the dugout, on-deck circle, or even on base. Watching your friend’s at-bats or defensive plays live feels like something baseball games haven’t really captured yet and a massive step into the next generation for sports video games. It could create some really memorable moments without forcing constant cutscenes.
RTTS already does a good job of making sure players stay involved with defensive opportunities no matter the position, so that structure wouldn’t need to change much. Viewing moments would be limited to the other player’s plate appearances or plays, and you are only viewing you and your friends opportunities so you are still getting quick and easy games.
Narratively, the mode could lean into a “dynamic duo” concept, two prospects coming up together, so promotions, goals, and story beats are shared. That also helps keep things simpler without needing heavily personalized cutscenes for each player.
To keep the scope realistic, this could be:
An optional mode alongside normal RTTS
Invite-only co-op with friends
limited career arcs and cut scenes
I think this kind of mode fits naturally with RTTS’s focus on realism and immersion, and it offers something different from competitive online modes—a way to experience a baseball career together.
