Brenton Doyle isn't just some random spotlight player. He's about to go 3 for 3 in Gold Gloves. He's the best defensive outfielder in the current MLB.
It's not a knock on Doyle I realize he is a really good fielder but that card was awarded mostly for his hitting stats that month. Plus he already has a Gold Glove card with 99 fielding (the only Gold Glove card that does)
Here are a list of Gold Glove Cards in the game and their fielding attributes.
Gold Glove Cards
Jim Edmonds 94
Jim Edmonds 90
Clemente 90
Rolen 93
Torii Hunter 93
Kyle Seeger 92
Brenton Doyle 99
Ian Happ 90
DJ LeMahieu 95
Jonah Heim 89I don't understand the logic that has actual Gold Glovers having lesser (but still diamond) defense.
Shoot there are 3 Silver Slugger Award cards with 95 fielding or above. 2 of those have a better fielding attribute that everyone on the above list except Doyle.

@TheDaveyG_NSW
PCA anyone? -
I just checked and out of all of the 99 overall Clemente cards since 2021
2021 Signature
2022 Milestone (3,000 hits)
2022 Finest
2023 Awards (MVP)
2024 Hall of Famethis version, the Gold Glove Version, has the lowest fielding attribute.

Any other cards with this program to help with the collection?
-
94 fielding would have been more acceptable. That way we could p5 to 99.

Did you forget Jacob Wilson and PCA exist? Hes good, but not the best -

Maybe you meant Denzel Clarke, who plays on the same team as Jacob Wilson, but isn’t a poor fielding shortstop?
If you did, he may very well prove to be better than the lot of them (7 DRS in roughly 330 innings is pretty amazing, and watching him is a jaw-dropping experience), but the best may be a bit premature, given he has yet to play a full season.
But, yes, Doyle is not the best defensive fielder in MLB.
And to Clemente, the man made a fair amount of errors in the outfield… maybe 90 isn’t so unfair (I do understand he made 0 errors in 1961). I mean, they gave Gold Gloves to Jeter.

.280 hitters get 125 contact cards at this stage, no reason a gold glove clemente shouldnt get 95+
-
@TheDaveyG_NSW I'd take Tatis>Doyle every day. Just saying
-
@Teak2112_MLBTS agreed. Fix Clemente!
-
This year, PCA has been better than Doyle. Im not sure current PCA is as good as Doyle was the last few years though, probably pretty close.
Clarke may be better than both, but its a very limited sample.
I wonder if PCA is this year's Cedric Mullins, where one great half will carry him into juiced cards every year far beyond how good of a hitter he actually is.
-
If you look at Fangraphs defensive metrics
Rafaela and Crow-Armstrong both have 19 Outs Above Average but Fangraphs Def metric puts Rafaela slightly ahead of Crow Armstrong
After that the order goes
Victor Scott II
Kyle Isbel
Brenton Doyle -
Defensive metrics can be all over the place and difficult to rely on.
Doyle is probably going to come up as having the best range, and that may be true but he also plays at Coors which could stretch those numbers a bit since its more spacious than other parks.
I can say from seeing him live a few times this year he is fun to watch in the field but its really tough to say he is definitively better or worse than PCA or other top CFs. Its not all about range, but range is obviously important (and why people [censored] on Jeter in particular)

I really thought Mullins would be good for the Mets. He's been a Jordan Peele movie nightmare. He is not 'him!' 🤪
I can't even hit with his New Threads 2.0 card. He's a double-disaster! -

I would not jump the gun. I am a huge Bader fan and will always root for him to do well. But I feel he can be streaky. He will go through a torrid stretch and then cool off for an extended period.
Remember when Tommy Edman was the GOAT during the playoffs? He's batting .228 this year. Which is sad because I really like Edman as well.

@The_Joneser_PSN
I meant the Jacob Wilson on the nationals who plays outfield -
@Talkingben9558_XBL, Ah... I think that's Jacob Young.
I just saw Jacob Wilson, went to the A's in my brain, and connected to Denzel, who is an amazing defensive CF.
