Saving gold and silver cards? I notice videos of players have 30-40 x cards they've collected and hold onto lower-rarity (gold and silver) player cards, rather than immediately selling them for Stubs (the in-game currency)??? Help me understand this?

Depending on the cards, when they have roster updates, the value of the cards can go up as their live ratings go up. Since there is an update today many people hold onto cards hoping that their investment pays off.
Other times people just have so many stubs that they don’t care if they sell the cards or not.

How do you know when there's an update? I guess I'm a newb, and really never paid attention and now that I'm really into the game I was wondering.

They are betting on the card being upgraded. I just saw someone on twitter say that they had 3,500 Daniel Palencia cards and expecting to make a lot of stubs today.
Basically they are buying low and expecting to sell high. It's a gamble but those who know what their doing can make good stubs that way.
I just would not have the patience for it.

There is an update today. Should be a pretty big one as they are also updating Fielding and Baserunning for the only time this season. Big attribute updates are every 3 to 4 weeks on average.

Ah gotcha!

Sometimes its done for investing purposes, but its absurdly tedious to sell cards while opening packs so i just let them accumulate then do a purge once or twice a year
I do sell slot 1 while opening though, and sometimes before an update Ill go sell golds if the quick sell and market values are the same as that is a sign a card could drop in value (or at best remain the same)

It's basically like the stock market if you're into that.

100% what they are hoping. I bought 30 Logan o'hope cards when he was a silver for 50 stubs. Then sold when he had his 83 gold. Glad I did because I felt he was gonna slump before diamond and he did. Just simply a guessing game.
