Fielders not covering on SBs
-
I was killing a guy, up 10-2 for weekend classic in the 9th, guy stole 3rd three times and almost came back because none of my fielders covered the base.
I assume this is a glitch, because why would the developers go out of their way to put something SO STUPID in as to have people not cover in competitive play for “realism” purposes. Like… please fix that…. Dats crazy.
-
I think the stolen bases were irrelevant and he almost came back because you kept letting guys get on second
Ive personally never seen this though
-
Your tone is a bit angry. That reduces the chances anyone at SDS would read this and give it proper regard.
However, let me answer the real baseball reason behind what you reported. It is called fielders indifference and normally happens when a team is up big late in games. As you said, you were leading 10-2 in the 9th inning. That certainly leads to indifference. The game code models this since it is part of the real game.
I would submit that if you were in danger of losing an eight run lead in the ninth inning, then it had a lot more to do with your pitching than the opponent stealing bases. After all, you cannot steal first!
So, there is nothing to fix here. The code mimics real life baseball.

@PriorFir4383355_XBL so you think that in an MLB game, if a team were to attempt 3-4SBs in a row, they wouldn’t cover? I would watch more MLB if i were you.
Tones def angry cuz it’s pretty egregiously not realistic. I def agree pitching wasn’t goood lmao, but would’ve been ours 2,3,3 again, and 3 again if a person decided to cover.

@MS_386pro_PSN It's called Defense Indifference. Once one team is up by a large number, the fielders won't cover and the advancement is not considered a stolen base because of DI.
-
@dap1234567890_PSN defensive indifference is when a catcher decides not to throw over. Not when a fielder isn’t paying attention, that’s an error. DI is ONLY when a catcher decides not to throw over, aka when the defense decides not to attempt to make the out. mostly in 1st and 3rd scenarios and yes, sometimes in blowouts. In all cases the catcher threw over.
Google exists!

@MS_386pro_PSN Google can be wrong (which is why it is not allowed as a reference in academia), but if you would reference the 2025 MLB Rule 9.07(g), you would find this comment by the MLB rules commission...
https://mktg.mlbstatic.com/mlb/official-information/2025-official-baseball-rules.pdf (page 120-121)
Rule 9.07(g) Comment: The scorer shall consider, in judging
whether the defensive team has been indifferent to a runner’s
advance, the totality of the circumstances, including the inning
and score of the game, whether the defensive team had held the
runner on base, whether the pitcher had made any pickoff attempts
on that runner before the runner’s advance, whether the fielder
ordinarily expected to cover the base to which the runner advanced
made a move to cover such base, whether the defensive team had
a legitimate strategic motive to not contest the runner’s advance
or whether the defensive team might be trying impermissibly to
deny the runner credit for a stolen base...In that comment "whether the fielder ordinarily expected to cover the base to which the runner advanced made a move to cover such base" is the situation being mentioned in this post. Also, SDS did code this correctly as you would notice no error and no stolen base was awarded. I also believe they do mention DI in the game summary for these instances as well.
Maybe you should have googled the official MLB rule book instead of using whatever Google gives you for whatever prompt you gave it or possibly go directly to the MLB website! Just a suggestion for next time!

I doubt it's a glitch because it happens in past versions of the game too. I'm playing through conquest in 24 and the CPU hasn't covered on several occasions.
-
@Blind_Bleeder_PSN I notice that the game will only do this for the losing team, but the winning team will have their stolen base attempts challenged by the losing team. In real life, those on the winning side of the blowout will usually show defensive indifference and not attempt to steal any bases themselves. However, in this game, I'll be stealing even if I'm up by 20 because it already is going to take a long time to get that Steals program finished as it is.

What's crazy is utilizing 'Dats' instead of 'thats'.

Love that … getting angry without having knowledge of the game
… Well, the guy 5000 miles away from you will also tell you that this is defensive indifference and a real thing in MLB … like it or not … get it or not
