I am sure this topic has been beaten to death on here but this is my first time posting. I have had this problem since last year.

When I play a game, specifically ranked or events, I will have a guy on first. When the batter hits the ball on the ground, for some reason the runner on first sprints back to first. It happens almost every time so I have to manually watch and hold the Lb button just to even have a chance. I get thrown out from the outfield at 2nd on singles all the time regardless of speed on the base paths.

I don’t know what to do anymore. Thinking about just quitting those modes altogether bc I have lost countless opportunities from this problem.

I don’t know if my finger is accidentally hitting a button or if I have a setting that’s wrong or if I need a new controller(just got the Xbox series 2 elite). Idk I’m just at the end so if anyone had any ideas.

    Thank you

Also is this just a game wide problem? If so I never see anyone talking about it. I feel like I’m on an island

The game code is a bit biased to have the runner go back to the base vice freeze in position. That's a fair criticism, and you see it most often when a pitch gets slightly away from the catcher. In that situation, the runner in real baseball will take a hope step to the next base while he evaluates what the ball is doing relative to the catcher and if he sees it getting truly away, will sprint to the next base.

The game code instead will almost immediately start the runner back to the original base, and so by the time you see where the wild pitch will wind up, it's not a good idea to try to advance unless the ball rolls well away. I see this happen most of the time in RTTS play.

Upshot? Honestly, I have just learned to accept it given it rarely happens. Most of the time, the default baserunner response is the correct one and frankly just as often if I impose my will on things I end up making a mistake. So, there's that!

@PriorFir4383355_XBL that was a very well thought out explanation. I very much appreciate it.

I’ve played a few games since this post and it happened less. Feel like it just comes in clusters. Oh well. Might as well keep grinding. Wait til I get some 99 speeds in the lineup to counteract it lol.

Out of curiosity what baserunning settings do you use?
