No, it doesn't read as his sister because "and" is conjunctive and denotes that there are two subjects.
-
If i had typed "Octavio Dotel Nelson Cruz's sister died..." or "properly" with "Octavio Dotel, Nelson Cruz's sister, died..." would be wrong and would then show Dotel as Cruz's sister when he is not. The keyword "and" separates the two subjects.

Dam fellas. You are both loosing the point that a tragedy occurred. Plus we the US has banned education so none of this stuff your arguing about matters anymore. Stupid is the new smart.

@dap1234567890_PSN The guy did your original post a huge favor and made it much easier to understand. Thank him, don’t [censored] at him.

Here is the main point. The OP is confusing. Is this one person who died and is the sister of both players (she could also be a sister-in-law), or is this a case where two people died, one the sister of Octavio Dotel and the other the sister of Nelson Cruz?
So, grammar and punctuation does matter.
In fact, it matters a whole lot. Having read the article, the OP was entirely confusing, and the modified punctuation actually wrote the situation out more clearly! Octavio Dotel and the sister of Nelson Cruz both died in the mishap. So, to have made the OP far more clear, the phrase "as well as the sister of Nelson Cruz" would have nicely substituted for "and" in that sentence.
So yes, OP, vice harangue the guy, you may want to just thank him!

Dang, usually I'm the grammar policeman. I found nothing wrong with this. I guess the commas help, but they're definitely not necessary. U mite just knead too get gooder at reeding.

Actually 58 people died, and something like 250+ injured, but they only talk about the famous(related to famous?)people ,have to read the story to find out about them.

Excellent point. The larger tragedy affected far more than these two families.
