99 Machado on the 14th of January
-
It's simply insane that it took this long, especially with all the repetitive filler content at the beginning of the year. What was the live content team thinking this year? I know 2K and Madden are horrible, but DD's downfall from '19-'24 is amazing.
-
Agreed. One of many head scratchers and seems very random and disorganized like most of the year.
-
Some player is always going to be the the last, or one of the last to get a 99 every year, even with all of the duplicates due to seasons.
It is not hard to understand from SDS' standpoint. They want people to continue playing in Jan and Feb. Their method is to hold back on a few desired players in hopes that releasing them in the final months of the lifecycle will keep players playing. If Machado had a 99 in S3 then people would complain that this was a useless duplicate 99 that was not worth acquiring.
I will agree with TripleH though that their approach to releasing cards this year seemed almost random at times.
-
Yeah, I completely get holding back some cards. With that said the releases have felt like they were either drawn out of a hat or the person in charge of content was either replaced or on extended leave. Better late than never for some players I guess.
If Elly isn’t the cover star for 25 the backlash will be massive that he didn’t get a 99 at some point this year considering his cycle card last year was amazing.
-
I'm a little confused as to why this card has such low defensive numbers but 70+ STL stats ... but whatever I guess it's good enough haha.
-
He really wasn't that good defensively this past season, and played alot of DH
-
The whole captins drop stuff feels like April/May content they missed, this was the filler content we should have gotten in ever season but now it's end of year content that no one is using.
I have see absolutely no engagement for this game on soical nothing from the streamers show up nothing.
25 I think will be a hard sell for most people, I'm personally out in 25 just had enough

That's weird how they're basing a captain card for Retro Finest on a player's '24 age season. I just assumed they would've created him based on one of his GG / prime hitting years.

Unless something goes horribly wrong I am still in, but its like 24 took away the good parts of 23 (huge programs, frequent mini seasons, etc) and gave us what felt like half the game with a worse iteration of sets.
My biggest fear from 25 is that SDS doesnt understand that what people hated about 'sets and seasons' was the sets part of it and we get even less focus in 2025 and its just a bunch of random, tiny programs with no real content flow at all.

People said that about 24
Before that they said it about 23At the end of every year there is always a group of players who swear they won't play it again for various reasons and predict the games demise.
Just like they predict it's demise every year as we approach Madden's or NBA 2Ks release dates (and throw in college football's release date this year).
Personally, I see no reason to make the call this early. I can simply wait until information is released and make that decision a day or two prior to release, depending on the information I have then.
-
It took me until 50 and about to get married with two stepdaughters, but it really is prove-it time for me.
NCAA football was my favorite back in the day. I was hugely disappointed with this release and will wait and see. If dynasty isn't massively improved, I'm out.
The Show, I'm probably out simply because I don't have the time to play a card-collecting game anymore and I have zero faith in SDS after the past couple of years.
Civ 7 -- now that's something my wife, a history teacher, and I can get into. I'm already trying to sell her on it....

I agree with you there
Speaking for myself here I have been on of the biggest defenders of this game on here and I just can't do it anymore.
I do hope they come back like it's an Undertaker like return in WWE but I fear it will be more like a former WWE star making their AEW debut

I feel like it’s either a skip a year or buy the game really late type deal for me. After being a year round player for the past 5 years I can’t see myself doing it anymore. With so many long time players having a similar stance next year should be very interesting for the future of this franchise.

I'm in your boat. I'll definitely play 25, but less so. I'm going to attempt 25 by not doing any "flipping", just playing the programs I want, and playing some other games. I'm guessing 25 will be mainly "rinse and repeat", with some minor adjustments. I'm sure we'll lose more "legends" and not gain many more.
That said, if they somehow managed to do the impossible and get Bonds... they'd get my attention. Or maybe a "next-gen" only game. A boy can dream...
-
Great Undertaker analogy. It’ll be like Koko B Wate making a Rumble appearance rather than when Shawn Michaels came back after being out of the ring for 4 years and had arguably the best matches of his career
-
I did that this year more or less and enjoyed it. I wish of course the game had been a better iteration but I wasn’t stressed about getting every card. I still ended up with most of them but from 21-22 I was a monster with flipping just to get every card. It becomes a bit too much

I want an OOP Undertaker card. THAT would get me to preorder. TAKE MY MONEY.

he had basically the same DWAR (baseball-reference) like he had the last 5 years. His 3.1 WAR is nearly all offense, but the defense does not kill him. He could have gotten one earlier tho … I do not mind since that there are always guys like him who do not get one
-
OK, I didn't play last year (I got fed up with the money grabbing in '22). I thought this year went much better and with a couple of exceptions (like the mandatory showdowns in Halloweek and Milestone programs), I got a lot of enjoyment in '24. One problem I've had is the fact that certain cards are really only available to online players unless you want to pay big bucks for them. I hate that. All cards should be available to everyone, one way or another (and that doesn't include astronomical prices). The game is more fun when you can get all the cards without giving away your entire stubbs wallet. After the mandatory showdowns, my playing has been much less. Offline and online players should be equal. It was better this year than in '22, but still not enough.
Another (and lesser) problem was the prices on the stadiums. It's nice that the MLB stadiums aren't priced anymore, but the minor league stadiums shouldn't be 10,000 stubbs each. I hope that gets corrected in '25.
And I like the idea of Elly in the game, but most of all I want Barry Bonds in the legends.

@xRatedGProdigyx_PSN I went through all the trouble of getting him and now I’m not even gonna use him
