40 Man Roster and Other Stuff
-
I was just thinking it would be nice if you could set your own 40-man roster when you start franchise mode instead of already having it set for you. That way, you don’t have to take people off the 40-man roster, which puts them on waivers, and you don’t have to do roster maneuvering through trades either. For example, trading someone on the 40-man roster to acquire someone not on his team’s 40-man roster, which allows you to call up someone who you’d rather have on your team instead of the guy being traded.
Also, can someone explain why a player with a high plate vision rating (such as Jose Ramirez) has such a small window that you have to be in to have your swing timing classified as good? It just seems weird. It often seems almost impossible to actually have a well-timed swing with him.
Also, I recently hit a foul ball that landed in the field of play and right in front of the backstop, and the CPU’s catcher didn’t even move. I hope that stuff gets out of the game eventually.

Well, unless you are the first GM of an MLB expansion team, then it is the situation you would face in reality. You would inherit a 40 man roster and have to determine what spots are appropriate and which ones are not. So, your complaint is about something that quite faithfully replicates real baseball.

In a sense, that’s true. But at the same time, if I’m playing as a team which has its best player on the 60-day IL, is it really that realistic to not have him on the 40-man just because he’s injured in real life? I kind of think that’s too realistic. Is this a big deal? Not really. But I just don’t really care a ton for the roster movement side of things. I do see some of the value in it, but only to an extent do I care for it because I feel that it can be too easy to get so concerned with it that you’re unrealistically trying to have a perfect team. And I get more enjoyment from playing the actual games.

The point of the game is to try to emulate real baseball in a video game that regular folks can play and enjoy. The point of the Franchise mode is for you to perform the role of GM. It has to be based on a realistic foundation. So, what I pointed out was true, and not in a sense, but totality of truth.
In Franchise you can play the games out almost precisely like in RTTS by using Player Lock option when starting the games. But, you have the added ability to tailor your team within the season as well as over the course of multiple seasons.
If you really don't like "tailoring lineups" then Franchise really isn't for you.

There should be an option of having the 40-man that comes with the default roster or roster update, or setting your own 40-man. Then SDS can please both types of people. -
I'm pretty sure that you can have the default roster you just have to click on that option when you start a new franchise
-
I don’t mean just having the default roster though. I mean being able to use either the default roster or a roster update but then also being able to set your own 40-man roster before the regular season starts.
-
And from what pool of players do you intend to take these 40 players? I just get the impression you want a game mode that isn't based on anything existing in real baseball, but instead served up to you on a silver platter of your own choosing. Yeah, I guess that's nice, but what's the point? I mean you get to choose what team you start as GM for. You can choose to use existing rosters, or even start off your GM career with a so-called fantasy draft where all teams get to draft from a roster of current and legacy players.
This is a competition mode, meaning you have to perform better as the GM than those on the 29 other teams, and a big part of this measured performance is your ability to evaluate talent and make the deals, draft picks, and developmental choices to put the best teams on the field (MLB, AAA and AA) plus the ghost A team.
Given all these options, what you are wanting does not make sense to me. But, to each his own.

I really don't think that franchise is right for you if you want all this stuff that isn't realistic

Whether it’s realistic or not realistic doesn’t matter. In Madden, you can choose whether to play with real life injuries on before you actually start. I don’t remember the name of the mode, but it’s the one in which you create a coach. It’s kind of like franchise mode in The Show. No, I don’t know if you can or can’t set your full roster in that game before starting. But the point still stands. If you play with an updated roster and can’t set your 40-man before even starting the mode, you’re basically playing with real life injuries on. Technically no, but basically yes since players on the 60-day IL aren’t on the 40-man. It shouldn’t be any different in this game than in Madden. A player should at least have the option of playing with a pre-set 40-man, or setting it himself if he wants to. There should be a way to enable that option.

The pool I would be choosing from would be those in my organization and any that I acquire in trades. But I also don’t play with force trades on or with GM’s ignoring budgets. I’ve actually made a lot of trades in the franchise mode I recently started as I’ve changed my 40-man. I’ve lost track, but possibly as many as seven trades. I think I’ve shed about $16 million from the payroll. -
You don't understand Madden is EA Mlb 24 is SDS, 2 different companies that do things different
-
Two words? Fantasy Draft?

@sbchamps17_NSW
I agree. And if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen. But if there’s a way to enable the option so a player at least has the choice, then there should be that option. -
