cpu throws wayyyyy too many balls on rookie
-
I am getting plenty of walks for sure, but I also agree that multiple batters in a row starting 3-0 is not something I’m experiencing. I’m also willing to hypothesize it’s pure luck when the pitcher hits the strike zone…. But they generally do within the first few pitches at least every few batters.

@TripleH-4481 every once in a while, it happens multiple times every game
-
@JDHalfrack As someone who has finished very conquest available, If I took a screenshot of every CPU pitcher placement on rookie, it would look like 80% of balls are WAY outside the zone, where the rest in the zone are nearer to the outside walls.
On Rookie last year, its like 70% meatballs, 20% corner dots, and 10% outside the zone.
Whatevers happening is more noticeable when youve played a ton on the rookie/vet level.
-
what's funny about this is the fact that every toxic player online just throws nothing but balls in the dirt so it's basically the same way the game plays online lol
-
That is exactly why I don't play ranked games online, I want to actually have fun playing it

This is my experience too. Well described.

@Shauwn Yeah I tried various difficulties, it's pretty much the same across the board. I think that the CPU has walked Judge like 75-80% of the time for me. I rarely see a strike with him
I literally tested this like a weirdo. I played 3 innings on Rookie, Veteran, and Allstar. I did not swing at a single pitch on all 3 games, just to see how many times I'd walk. Here are the hilarious results.
Rookie = 9 walks and 2 runs. I won 2-0 WITHOUT SWINGING ONCE!
Veteran = 7 Walks and 1 run. I won 1-0....
Allstar = 3 walks and 0 runs. I played normally in the 4th innings and won 3-0.Of course I played against Strider and the Braves. But allstar is a little better.
-
@Shauwn how many started as 3-0 counts?

I didn't check. Each time I was hitting, I went back to the kitchen to stir food or went to smoke a cig, lol.
But by playing actual games, I did get quite a few 3-0 counts and 4 pitch walks.

I'm in a miniseason game right now on rookie. The CPU is a veritable strike machine, with 10 total strikes to 18 balls. It feels like batting practice, lol.
Seriously though, guess what? NOT ONE STRIKE WAS MIDDLE-MIDDLE. Not a single one. On rookie.
Pitching on rookie is broken, people. If you've been "hypothesizing," stop. It's broken.
-
I did the Tony Gwinn moment to get in base 3 times by just taking pitches. 3 walks. This never happened in previous versions.
-
@CBrev47 Supercharged outfielders with 35 speed. gotta luv it
-
@BIG-DADDY-42 this comment is exactly why I'm leery of even getting into online play...seriously is this how it is?

that's not weird. you did a research and this was your outcome. Why SDS didn't notice or do this is the problem I have. I didn't pay to be a tester, I want a game that's ready to go.
-
I'm still wondering if they even have a QA team because this would have been noticable with like 5 minutes of gameplay if they tested anything in this game at all before release.
-
I know we are all assuming this is a bug, but it kinda fits how the gameplay has been going in previous years. It wouldn’t surprise me if this was by design at all.

I didn't pay to be a tester, I want a game that's ready to go.Lol thanks for that. I mean, it's a little weird bc I didn't see or hear of anyone else performing this test. I just wanted to see just how bad the cpu pitching is on the most played difficulties. It probably would have been worse if I didn't face Strider and the Braves during the test, lol.
The biggest and most hilarious result is I won 2 games by not swinging once. There's absolutely no way pitching is working as intended.
I'd love to see others perform the same 3 game no swinging test to see the results they get.

Coming here to add my experience in seeing the same thing and bump this - has there been any updates on a fix since the last Dev post?

It’s annoying but I’m finding that it is training me to be a little better at seeing pitches headed out of zone. It definitely needs to be changed though. CPU games are so slow and not worth it with such minuscule XP earned each game. It will take Double XP days in order to get the same XP per game that we’ve gotten in past years. It goes well beyond just walks. I’ve had my batters hit with pitches more than the last few years combined already. I swing at pitches to prolong at bats, just to give my players a chance to accumulate stats. One thing I will also mention is that I’m seeing way more well struck baseballs dying at the wall, even when playing at short created stadiums. I do think part of that is due to glitchy wind patterns. Maybe I’m different than many players, but sometimes I just prefer a more arcade feel to the game. If I’m playing on Rookie, I want to enjoy the experience of a lot of offense. Simulation should be for higher levels of play. This year’s gameplay is not living up to their own definitions of what the lower level experience should be. They are just too hung up on not wanting fast progression in the game. That should be the decision of each player. We should be able to progress as quickly as we want if we are putting legitimate hours into it. Nobody should be cut off from XP gains after just a few hours, especially with such minuscule gameplay XP being awarded now. I can understand that it may take time for an update, but this team heightens negativity with such poor communication about issues. And I do expect them at some point to give a statement saying that they have been gathering data before making changes. It’s just the wrong way to go about things in a social media world and in games that have forums monitored by the development teams and studios. This year is disappointing so far and needs a turnaround quickly before it’s too late to save it.

I did an experiment in a conquest game on rookie yesterday. I set the controller down while batting for the 1st inning to see how many balls I would get. I walked 11 times, scored 8 runs, took 75 pitchers with 29% strikes. I only did the 1st inning because it took 20 minutes. I imagine it would have gotten worse as I got deeper into their bullpen.
