Only ten new legends this year…
-
I'm not disappointed. Some solid names announced today and they likely still have more to be announced later.

I can’t wait to use John Kruk
Can I make him bat right-handed against Randy Johnson?

From a marketing standpoint it doesn’t make sense to drop a huge name right before the game comes out when they’ve said preorder over 100 times already. I’d expect a they’d be on the cover of one of the covers like Jeter.
I think they could absolutely use him as a tipping point for anyone who is maybe on the fence still. Love or hate him, A-Rod has that kind of marketability and name value especially with the casual baseball audience. The majority of those who already preordered the game were people who were always going to get it especially for Early Access.
Holding off on a big name like A-Rod this close to release is like an ultimate impulse buy at a grocery store. One of those really tempting treats that stare out you the entire time you're on line about to check out. Like a last-minute adrenaline rush.
They have ALWAYS had a big headliner to cap these Legend releases and I still expect there to be one that gets announced on the final stream before the game goes live.

@arvcpa
All star game Kruk needs to be a switch hitter if they make the card lol
-
@sbchamps17 Why do you say that?
-
@arvcpa This should 100% be a moment with the helmet backwards.
-
@SakAttack87 Sosa and McGwire were announced late. Big names have been announced late and not been on a cover.
-
@GoozeFn
Think that reply was suppose to go to me but Jeter was announced before them and put on a cover because he’s such a big name. I think there’s 4 editions of the game if it were someone that big give them a cover of one of them. Also if it were a massive player show them off like they did Jeter
-
@GoozeFn Sosa and McGwire werent announced late. They were in the legends trailer that came out March 20, 2023. 4 days before early access and 8 days before full launch.
Same timeline as the current legend trailer. 4 days before early access , 8 days before launch
-
@GoozeFn bro Sosa was not announced late… they were all in the MLb 23 trailer lol….. you are wrong

I also don't think A-Rod would get the cover treatment simply because of his "controversial" reputation within the game. Like he can be the greatest card in The Show and one that everybody loves to have in their lineup, but just not cover material based on those reasons whether you agree with them or not.
-
@Joeflakes ARod isn’t on the same level of popularity as Jeter in my opinion. They didn’t give Randy Johnson a cover in 22. They didn’t do it for Mantle in 21, but they may have done it for Jackie that year. I’m just saying I think it’s more likely than not the biggest name hasn’t been revealed yet. I really hope that’s the case because this has been the most disappointing lead up to any MLBTS game I can remember… so far.
I think I’m off on Mantle after looking at it…
-
@Easy_Duhz_It_ My mistake. That’s late in my eyes, but that would be the same timeline as the trailer we just got.
-
Ok I’ll agree he might not be cover material I forgot he wasn’t the nicest person on the field lol. Assuming there is a big name still it just doesn’t make sense to me to hold it. People are clearly not happy/ disappointed with this game so far as a whole makes me wonder if the game will just be a huge disappointment
-
Yeah, so Mantle was 2020 6 days before release. Maybe this year will just be a complete disappointment.
-
No one is buying/not buying the game based on the inclusion of any one player. Not how these games work.
-
@GradektheBard ehhh I doubt that.. guarantee there were first time Show buyers once Jeter was announced last year
That may be true this year though
-
@GradektheBard you definitely cannot accurately make that statement at all lol
-
Geezus... are we using the word Legends loosely here? The names listed above there maybe handful would qualify as such. The NGL Players, guys in HoF (not beltre dude just got in hows that a Legend). I dunno, my definition of a Legend is different i guess.
-
It would be nice to get some bigger names but it’s not terrible.
Johan Santana
Adrian Beltre
Josh Gibson
Buck Leonard
Toni Stone
Rafael Palmiero
Paul O’Neil
Bernie Williams
Andy Pettite
Andrew Miller
Tony Oliva
Richie Sexson
John Kruk
Rich Aurilia
Brian Dozier
