So, Sets & Seasons are back.

BR being 10-0 means the sharks are going to get even richer...will now need to have a 1000x flawless banner, lol...will this also mean the prices of those rewards lowers with more of them in the market?
-
@arvcpa
Well. They’re always sellable if you achieve them by rank.
They’re not if achieved by grinding.
So it doesn’t tell us anything tbh.
-
There really wasn’t anything in the DD post to me that was “now, that is exciting”. It was “ok, maybe it won’t be as bad.” I truly wanted something “exciting”. I used to play this game 10 months a year and loved it. Last year I was done right after TA3 started and had slowed way down even before that. I just jumped back on the game over the past few days and was reminded how much I absolutely hated ‘23. I have 3 million stubs and don’t even know what to do with them. The game was just so disorganized.
I really hope ‘24 is better and I really hope it is “good”, but the entire blog post just left me going “I really don’t know…depends how they do it.”

@lewisnadasurf1 Got ahead of myself

@aaronjw76 It's 100% a case of "we had this unique idea and don't want to admit it sucked, so after all that work we're not gonna admit to it being a flop / scrap it"
So instead they basically just changed it back to normal and kept the name "sets"
-
Unless I'm reading this wrong, you actually get less time with cards this year.
Yes, seasons are 12 weeks but those cards are limited to just that season, unless you unlock the up to 4 wildcard spots (don't know if you have to do that every season or what). Last year the seasons were 6 to 8 weeks, but you could use the previous season's cards for that season. So you got 12 to 16 weeks timeframe for every set, with the exception of sets 4 and 5 since they were eligible from when introduced till the end.
This is a tighter timeframe and more restrictions on cards.
-
So my thoughts/questions. I hate sets.
Wildcards. Will we have to unlock all 4 of these each season? Or do they carry over to the next season once unlocked? The way i read it is or took it i guess is, its linked to the XP reward path and must be unlocked each season. So it resets essentially. Could be wrong.
Even more grindy. I know they added play how ya want with the vouchers and thank god because there is no way in hell id buy mlb24, but the Team Affinity grind is gonna be insane lol. Borderline burnout after season 1 i can see it.
Death of Theme Teams? So no more Cubs Captain theme teams? Bummer

The goal is definitely not for TA to be more grindy. Essentially we're taking a season of TA from last year, making it a bit easier, and then splitting it into three chunks. More digestible, better pacing, and hopefully less of an overwhelming grind.

@CBrev47 I really appreciate this post. Last season definitely brought complete burn out for me and I know it did for many others. A fun TA sounds great, but anything close to last year would be a nightmare. One of the biggest improvements that could ever be made with TA and other programs is to be able to make progress just as easily online versus offline. The past few years have brought so many offline requirements that it makes it where you almost have to choose completing programs or playing online.
-
Brev can you confirm if by sellable rewards in ranked it does include the grinding way as opposed to get 900 on rating?
-
BTW guys you will probably unlock only 1 wild card slot per season not 4 every season I think

This right here. They completely pigeonhole people into a specific mode to try and get objectives done for cards that discourages people from playing online to complete them.
I don't mind it innthe beginning when I'm building a team and working the market to buy cards I want but after that first month I want to play with my shiny new cards and I'm forced into a choice of playing online with the cards I worked for or offline to acquire more cards.
Start giving some incentives to playing the game across the board. I feel like they are so worried about less than 1% of people boosting for objectives that they screw over the other 99% to make a point lol

This feels like it should’ve been a video explaining everything. Not sure why storylines get an hour of talking and this gets a blog post.

Both the rewards in the Ranked Program (playing innings, etc.) and for making World Series are sellable.

We heard this feedback a lot last year and it's something we're addressing. Expect more ways to progress TA passively, including the return of TA vouchers and missions for both "vs. CPU" and "vs. other players" modes.
-
@PlacidBarley335 My guess is we start with 1. Grind for an extra each season until the final season where we can use everything.
-
@CBrev47
Great news. Thanks
-
I love the idea of a more digestible TA. But I also think TA has run its course -- it really doesn't do what it's supposed to. It's just a giant collection with a few usable cards online that will help you get the big collections later on...

They just couldn’t humble themselves enough to admit sets & seasons was a mistake, So they doubled down on them & just changed things slightly. SO GLAD I didn’t preorder. I will say thanks to SDS for letting everyone know now so they can cancel their preorders before they are charged.
-
Major disappointment reading the blog post. SDS had a great DD formula, completely jacked it up last year and have doubled down this year despite being flooded with negative feedback. Sure they threw us a few bones but overall, very disappointed in the continued direction. Bottom line, I pay for the game; I don’t want cards I’ve earned deemed unusable throughout the game cycle that again, I paid for.
