But I think he'll be a DH only. I don't think they'll give him secondary positions off the start.
I'm still holding onto my prediction that Yamamoto won't be in until the first update.
What's to stop them from giving him OF as secondary? There's no reason not to. He probably won't play the OF at the beginning of the season, but that's no reason why SDS can't put it on his LS card.
Why do you think Yamamoto won't be in the game on release? He already has a Topps card in a Dodger uniform.
I don't think he signed with the MLBPA yet
The very second he signed his contract he was in the MLBPA. That has nothing to do with this game having his NIL. Did they retain his rights from last year is the questions?
Edit: Last year = 2023
I thought you had to play in at least 10 MLB games before you can get into the MLBPA?
Not as far as I know.
How many MLB games has Zac Veen played in? He’s in the game.
Also, if you're talking about his FS card from this year, can't remember if he had an LS last year, that's different. That's a made up card. That's different than having an LS, or even a regular FB, card.
If you notice; all cards other than the ones SDS 'make up' are modeled after that year's Topps card.
Ex: all the cards, of the players, in the Rookie Series, are modeled after that year's Topps design.

IF, and that's a big IF, they have Yoshida Yamamoto in the LS Collection, release day, chances are he won't have an actual photo and would just be a black silhouette.
But I do think they CANT give him a LS card until he plays an actual game.
But I could be wrong. We'll see in a little over a month.

@X-FREEZE-OFF-X according to the MLBPA FAQ, they have to be on the 40 man roster to be eligible. That is why there are so many MiLB players in the game. They haven’t played in the majors, but they are on the roster, so they are in the game.
https://www.mlbplayers.com/faq
And, there is already a Topps card of Yamamoto in a Dodger uniform. If they don't want to use that one, they do have Photoshop. He will be there and in a Dodger uniform. Plus, there are photographers at Spring Training. They can get a pic there too.
-
@arvcpa I think his list could be correct since Ohtani is a Dodger. He will now be the Dodgers gatekeeper.
Trout
Acuna
Ohtani
Judge
Tatis4 and 5 interchangeable

Zac Veen has a live series card. He’s on Colorado in my franchise.
Ohtani was in MLB18 at launch before playing an actual game and they didn’t already have his NIL for MLB17.
And his name is Yoshinobu.

Will Trout still be #1? Has to be Ohtani, right? What are your thoughts?
You got to remember, that they base the base attributes on the perfomance of the last 3 years … but … there will def be other factors …
My guess:
Trout will be in with a low 90
Mookie / Freeman / Acuna /Judge will have a higher 90
Ohtani will be the most expensive (and he will have pitcher stats, since he was one)Interesting: Shohei is the only player ranked under the Top 10 WAR in the last 3 years —> https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/WAR_top_ten.shtml
If you pick some of the players (I did that randomly for a few guys), some accumulate at about 15 WAR (for the 3 years) … e.g. Judge, Betts, but also a Paul Goldschmidt … Trout is at about 11EDIT: I edited some of the information

Here me out. They give him pitching secondaries. Then later on, unless they keep those secondaries, when they take them off; I could see some type of bug happening.

Franchise mode and DD are two different modes. Again, we all can argue this until the cows come home. But unless someone from SDS comes on here, which is highly unlikely, to verify it; we'll have to wait until the game releases.

Live series cards are the ones used in franchise but then again I’m talking to the person who thinks Ohtani won’t have pitching attributes. He had them in MLB18 and was just a DH from having TJS. I’m starting to worry about you.

They look like LS cards, but the attributes are different in Franchise than in DD. And, they don't change with roster updates.

They’re the same when the game launches and they change during each roster update. The only difference is the overall isn’t the same. They just don’t change on your pre-existing save files.
Edit: the only difference is they cap out at 99 on rating when you enter your franchise.

@Ericulous1 Great minds.

Ohtani will be the most expensive and I’ll think he’ll have pitching attributes and everything. He pitched last year and that’s really all that matters. They tend to go off the previous year or so

how it typically works,is a player fills out the paperwork to join the union and in most cases has to participate in official activities (like playing in at least 1 game for sports) to be eligible to represented by the union. the hold up with a lot of these international players is there are international laws that have certain requirements before they can join unions in other countries, with ohtani I think they applied for exceptions and the parties involved negotiated so he could be included immediately (with his popularity they did it for all the merchandise sales, etc)
Yamamoto certainly seems popular enough that they could go the same route, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's there or if he is not there.
