Linking cross platform accounts

My son has the show for switch and I have it for PS4. I’m trying to link our accounts and am getting errors every step of the way. Has anyone had this issue? What was the fix?

You can't link accounts between two separate people. You each have to ha e your own account on each console.

I don't know how the system would know the accounts are from two separate people. You don't need to use the same email address or have the same username.
Keep in mind, linking is not merging. One account will be the boss and one will be the subordinate. All activity will show on the boss account. If the accounts are ever unlinked, the boss account progression will remain while the sub account will go back to where it was before it was linked.
If your goal is to share assets (give him what you've earned (and vice versa), that is not how it works. When you link accounts, you make it possible to have the same game on multiple devices.
