Anyone know why a 95 mph fastball on Legend or Hall of Fame is faster than a 95 mph fastball on All-Star? On All-Star for hitting and pitching, I’ve mastered the game. But when I’ve very rarely played above All-Star for hitting, fastballs have been so fast that they’re just extremely, extremely hard to hit. You have to start your swing very early, which can open you up to looking silly trying to hit off speed pitches. And if you wait, you can be way late. Why is it that hard? I want the game to be challenging, and there have been times when I’ve wanted things to be more challenging. But I don’t want it to be like what I described. Instead of pitches being faster above all-star, I believe it would be better if the CPU just located its pitches better, thus painting the corners with strikes more often. Maybe even having a bit more variety in pitch location and types of pitches thrown. I don’t think there’s really a happy medium above all star, so I’ve had absolutely no incentive to play above all star since 21.

I’ve wanted universal pitch speeds for a long time. Unfortunately, the player base is very wide in skill and demographic, and SDS tries to appeal to all.

So long as the emphasis is on the game being a “realistic simulation”, I think we are stuck with some unrealistic gameplay. It’s ironic, but I think SDS pays a lot of attention to user stats at all the different levels of play.

All Star pitching seems to be different going from mini seasons to say play vs cpu or to conquest. No consistency

Exactly. Even within conquest, the pitching is different in stronghold games.

And the moments too. The Extreme Piazza moment is supposed be AS, but it definitely isn’t.

You can thank tweaked sliders for those differences. It affects everything from pitch speeds, to pitchers control, to Superman defense and much more. My theory is that because rewards are directly attached to modes like conquest, showdown and moments, SDS cranks up the sliders to make them more difficult than say vs CPU. Sure most can still blitz thru those modes but it’s clear as day the game is much more forgiving and rewarding in a plain old vs CPU contest comparatively.
