Timing/directional

Is anyone serious about this game NOT using zone hitting?
The current pitching meta is forcing me to consider making changes.
I’ve noticed I tend to track the movement of my own pci more than the actual movement of the ball. Two runs on four hits in a 9 inning ranked games is just not much fun.
Thoughts?

@halfbutt_PSN - Well, that depends on what you mean by serious... I've played about 300 RS games (about 165-135), so I don't set the world on fire with my success, but I have a good time and I can hang even in many of the games I lose (though, late cycle, I get crushed a fair amount--that's my pitching, though, but I can't keep up on offense).
I use Timing with analog input, because I feel like that gives me the most realistic experience; I hit close to .300--sometimes over--with my best, and fall to .240ish on cards that don't play well with my style... you'd certainly put yourself at a disadvantage because it's really tough to score more than 5 or 6 runs at your best (mine, anyway), but, again, it's more in-line with actual baseball results. Not every hit is an HR, which I find kind of refreshing...
It's true that you're essentially turning placement over to game (the analog component allows for choice of inside, middle, and outside, which helps when you do it right and kills you when you don't) so you won't be pulling down and away sliders over the wall like many zone players do, but it just feels better, if you ask me...

Why did they add timing when directional was already in the game? What does directional do that timing doesn't?
I find it harder to hit than ever since switching to XBOX. I use zone only. No PCI anchor BS. I spent the day yesterday switching camera angles. You know it's going bad when all of a sudden you think something is wrong after 10 years of playing on zone.

That’s kinda where I’m at. Hey, I’m an old guy. I’m not expecting to be a top tier pci input player. That said, the game is not much fun if you’re striking out 10 times every game.
The way the game is now, every online match pretty much requires that you hit dots. My last game opponent even made a pitching change with 2 out in the 9th, up 6 runs. I’m not complaining about it, but am trying to be practical.
Pitching is just too dominant, it seems.

I use timing but only because I play on Nintendo switch and can't figure out how to use the PCI, I've tried multiple times but couldn't ever figure it out

Disable the onscreen PCI is my advice. Keep feedback on and you can make any slight corrections you need from there. Your eyes and thumbs will do the rest I assure you. You’ll see what I mean once you try it. The first time you hit a seed without it you’ll feel really good and before long you’ll wonder how you ever hit the ball before with all that distraction on the screen. For me personally it was the situations where the PCI target would shrink down to the size of a pebble lol I’d be so hyper focused on in I’d have the outcome determined before the ball was ever released. Once it’s gone it feels much more comfortable because you’ll start to focus on the release point and the incoming trajectory and your eyes and thumbs will do the rest.
That’s what worked for me personally so maybe it’ll work for you too. Give it a try for 5 or 6 games and see if you like it. Best of luck to you regardless

Do you use a pro? It makes it easier. I've gotten to the point where I can comfortably play zone on my Switch, when I use my pro.

They added timing for Switch players. Using the tiny knobs on the controllers is difficult, especially for large hands.

That’s actually a really good suggestion.I’m going to give it a shot!
Thanks man. I mean, it can’t get much worse, right?
-
OK believe it or not, I turned the pci off and hit a tank in the first at bat, three pitches in.
I’m just trying it out vs the cpu, and it feels weird but… so far so good. I’m now JUST looking at the ball.

Hey brother it changed everything for me. Switching my batting view to strikezone high helped tremendously too. Give yourself several games though to get used to it and just trust your instincts. Just think about all those years we played baseball games where ya just watched the ball and hit it. It’s just a big bunch of distraction to me. Your eyes and thumbs will take you to the ball - you’ll see just watch the feedback and before long you’ll be ripping it.
Just stick with it but I suspect you’ll see results quite quickly and, if not, you can always switch it back on but I’d recommend staying with zone hitting regardless of whether or not you choose to use the on screen pci because zone gives you superior control when you want to hit the ball where they ain’t. -

I totally believe it partner! WTG

No I play on Nintendo switch lite

Well, it was just 9 innings vs cpu on AS but, 9 runs on 13 hits. 6 PP hits. Only walked once, and struck out 8 times (chasing high hard stuff mostly). There is definitely something to this.I’m going to keep at it for a bit. Will be interesting to see how this translates to online games.
Thanks tons, brother!

Very impressive I think. Especially that you’re already cracking perfect perfects on AS in your first attempt my goodness man that took me daysto do that lol
Your timing will catch up to your hand eye coordination as you keep after it but you’re well on your way it sounds like to me! WTG mang -
I have my pci fade out but basically do the same. I still suck but I’m improving

@BxnnyMxn_
Thanks buddy!
The online thing is another story, but at least now I’m getting some weak contact instead of whiffing all the time. There is potential.I do struggle with opponents that pitch as fast as possible. I’ve always hated playing guys like that. It’s not a race, FFS!
