We need ping based matchmaking

For SDS makes zero sense to move away from P2P because matches are 1v1. This is why we need ping based matchmaking.
Btw, I lived in the DR and the internet is not as good as it is in the US, same goes for PR (According to some of my Puerto Rican friends).
Also, if you play on WiFi and are in another continent chances are you are the person benefiting from the lag compensation when you play people in North America @lewisnadasurf1_PSN

This post needs to go. Even people in my state can’t afford what I pay for internet. They aren’t as wealthy as I am. People in this forum just don’t seem to get it so I’ll say it outright.

I wish they moved to decidated servers for real, financially it makes zero sense to SDS tho. We match to play 1v1 so it’s like a waste of resources for them to do it.

It has nothing to do with Puerto Rico. That’s just an example. It could be any country with anyone who hosts the game from a long distance from you because the game, from my understanding, uses peer-to-peer servers. The home team is the host server, and the further away from your connection, the more lag you can experience, which, from a quick Google search, says is a known weakness of p2p servers. And I’m not criticizing anyone for not living closer to me. I’m happy people from all over the world play this game and enjoy playing them all.
All I would like is a way to tell how well a connection is before I enter a game or SDS to upgrade their servers away from p2p because everyone all over the world would have a better gaming experience.

As stated, the analogy assumes: Only Puerto Rican and Dominican people use Puerto Rican and Dominican Unis/names, and those two places have poor internet connections. The initial analogy was flawed, which is my concern. I remember hearing, at one point, New York City has more Jews than Tel Aviv, more Italians than a major Italian city, and more Puerto Ricans than San Juan. (it was actually a long list, those were the ones that stuck out to me)
As far as Puerto Rico goes, that's still true. There are around the same amount of people living in Puerto Rico as people of Puerto Rican decent living in the rest of the US. So what is the chance that the person wearing Puerto Rico uniforms is in Puerto Rico. I would guess, probably less than 50% since anyone can use any uniform and they do.

At no point in my argument did I suggest the quality of the internet in any location. My concern is the distance between me and the connection is increasing lag. I don’t assume location equals lousy internet.
My assumption was teams with unis/usernames of locations far away from me + lag equals the likelihood of the host being a more significant distance from me. When I host the game, the same player will experience lag based on the distance between us.

Not a good comparison for the simple reason that hundreds of thousands of people play Rocket League daily. At its peak in June a few hundred people were online playing this game on PSN. They’re not going to spend the same amount of money as Rocket League for 1/1000th the number of users.

I understand this. My point was Saturday morning, I connected with I think 3 teams in a row with Puerto Rico in their team names in a row or jerseys and the connection was subpar. I understand they could all be a mile away from me. But a reasonable person could conclude that we might be on the opposite side of the continent which is why the connection seems laggy and for some reason I kept getting matched with them. That’s all, I don’t assume all people of Puerto Rican descent has dial-up internet.

There is a good chance you’re matched up with someone in some part of the country with really bad internet or someone living in the middle of the country who spent his entire day farming so you could eat and that person is like the other guy in this thread and named his team anyway he felt unrelated to his race. Or the other 2 guys whose teams aren’t anywhere near where they live. My team is the Spiders because I like spiders not because I’m a spider and unfortunately I’m not Spider-Man.
Man my team is the snakes and I’ve not a clue how that happened lol maybe due to me being an East Tennessee Smoky Mountain hillbilly where the internet is an abstract thought experiment involving two tin cans connected with ten lb test pulled taut

Then why were you answering my post about incorrect assumptions when it comes to country of origin that was by someone else or another account? I believe I put something to the effect of, it was poorly worded. It was. Any justification will not change that. I don't think there was any malice. I don't think most would think there was malice. When I use poor choices I usually just sound like a [censored]. That sounded worse.
That 's the one thing I don't care about this new reply button. It's hard to tell what you're replying to since the original quote is no longer on the screen. I say we chalk it up practice. I've restarted this like 3 times just to remember exactly what I was replying to. I'm only using/replying to quotes from now on. At least we can see full arguments on both sides.
