Which Trout and which Story card versions are you trying to use? They implemented the "expiring cards" thing this year, so your cards may be expired.
However, SDS is offering a shiny new Trout card that you can purchase if you are willing to spend stubs.

The Set 4 ones? Have the game build a best set 4 team and that will fix the glitch. They aren't wildcards, but the game did this when S3 began too. You can also uncheck the box for S3 (or if they changed it yet, S4) in the filter and that will clear it too. Then you can build your S4 team.

They've clearly stated that since before day one.
I'm guessing WBC Trout and Incognito Story? If not, you just need to change your team to S4 instead of S3 by generating best S4 team in the options in Manage team.

If you are talking about the recent Trout and Story, you have to reset your lineup. Delete and redo your lineup and you will be able to use them both.

You have to designate your lineup as S4 or Generate Best S4 Squad. Until you do that any card that doesn't match the season (1 - 1, 2 - 1 & 2, 3 - 2 & 3, 4 - 3 & 4) with the exception of CORE cards will act as a Wild Card.

It’s also swapping random players. But yeah as everyone else says. Refresh your line up.

if you have a Wild Card active and select another player to be a Wild Card, the game swaps out your previous Wild Card for the best available player at that position in your inventory.
