Buy 99

So far it hasn't bothered me, a lot of the 97s are really good like Dustin May. I don't think they do 97s all year.

Hope so man.

Buy 99 is a good name for what's going on. It's an EA move and clearly the plan (thus far at least). The best WBC cards were/are all in packs, the future stars cards were only available in packs (I think), the HRD/ASG cards, etc. etc. etc.
The 99 deGrom leaked earlier this week is part of the Incognito series and I'd bet anything he's in the rare round of whatever they named the new pack that's coming out tomorrow (or subsequent packs during this new season).

I definitely see a shift in the game with premium pack price increases and 99 player online rewards towards encouraging the player base to either spend money on the game or play a lot online. If you are an offline grinder like me we are basically SOL, at least up to this point in time. Flipping may open up eventually but for now there are a lot of cards I can’t afford and even those I can I don’t want to spend my stubs on. It’s discouraging to say the least.
-
Just being devils advocate but, does it really matter for us offline players? I actually enjoy having a diverse lineup where I have to think through who’s batting where. It’s more realistic to have some weak hitters in your lineup compared to years past where my worst hitter was still a 99 overall just got stale after awhile. Playing against the computer I don’t see the need for a full 99 ovr lineup.
Online though I get there’s a disadvantage so I can see ppl being upset about that for sure and that makes sense.

Huge shift this year.... unfortunately most games are headed this way now. EA set precedent earning over a billion dollars in just microtransactions last year, and now all gaming companies want a piece of that pie. It's very obvious SDS is turning that corner and will only get worse each year. I'm a Madden player and they started a huge shift just like this in 2016 and got worse every year to now, where it is just the normal for Madden.

Guys I am kinda worried about certain things in this years game.I maybe be exaggerating of course but it seems to me that most of the 99's this year so far are in the packs.
TA Season 2 is 97 again. In the year of 99's day 1 we don't really get a lot of them through grinding.
This all may change but what if Team Affinity's are 97 all year long with XP reward path bosses being 99s
Do we really have to buy packs for 99 Ohtani and Trout ect?
I wasn't really thinking about this before and I need to see their stats but TA 2 being 97 kinda worries me a bit for the future of this game
the difference between 97 and 99 in this game is nothing, a 97 with a better swing will always be better than a 99 with a bad one. Card overall does not matter.

they give you enough free packs to hopefully pull one (I've pulled Darvish, Nen, McCovey twice (sold one to get Sutton just because)), and if you sell dupes and grind you can most likely buy from marketplace... I'm eyeing Alvarez but might take some time to get him... maybe by Memorial Day Weekend if I take advantage of this week+ long vacation since my actual vacation won't be until I find out when Jets are in Vegas.

I love the Brett Baty card.

Another thing about packs is the "Pack Opening" videos on YouTube are no longer the go-tos for people, I feel like more people are interested in the informative videos like how to beat things like Showdown, Conquests, Mini-Seasons or a program or Moment in general or a good gameplay video... packs are just a bonus for those that know how to earn massive amounts of stubs by playing market and/or being real good at things like Challenge of the Week or can afford to buy stubs... and even then no guarantee that you'll get the top card... I watched tons of YTers pull that 99 Trout but the amount of packs they needed was crazy!
-
The 97's after a couple of parallels will be a 99 anyway. This new system of giving higher diamonds early has totally made going after the LS series an afterthought. Only thing that concerns me is the different sets where you lose the ability to use all players but 1 after Set 2. I don't really like that part and it seems to me that we will just see the same players over and over as the season progresses. Season 3 99 Griffey, Season 3 99 Chipper different cards etc. We will see.

You will find that there are generally 3 types of people that have "pack luck."
-
Streamers - They are basically free advertisement for the game. They don't want a thousand people watching a streamer pull packs to get bronze and common.
-
New players - This is simply to get to players hooked.
-
Really bad players - This is to help them compete.
Regardless of what you think these things are just good for business. If you are unsure, don't fall into any of these categories and see how good your pack luck is. Sure there will be a few outliers but the huge majority that fall into these categories will not have good pulls. I have been a WS player since I first started on PS in 17. My best pull ever was a 70k Sale. I decided to jump over to Xbox to kind of test this out with a new player. I have pulled 5 or so people worth more than 70k. My guess would be if I played on Xbox after making WS this year, my pack luck would again be bad.
This isn't a complaint post, it is simply how the system works which is best for the business that they are trying to make money on.

SDS always pumps out packs for sale the first time they release them. In the past, they put them in every reward path and conquest map a month or two later. If you don't want to buy the specialty packs, wait until they hand them out like candy. I'm going to wait to see if that trend continues before jumping to a conclusion.

The issue with TA was in 21 all the best cards were put there SDS admitted this themselves so that's why they took it away and made them featured programs. When TA return they did it in a way that corrected many of the issues TA in 21 had which was to quick to finish and to good of cards.
I am not saying this to defend SDS more of a cause and affect explanation, I do agree that the 99s all seem to be in packs which will be released as rewards later on that's the pattern always. The sets issue may change that but to be fair no one uses early pack cards later in the year anyways.
The number in the corner of the card really means nothing cause there are a tone of 97s and even 95 that I would use over some 99s so to me it doesn't mean much.

streamers dont get boosted packs

I don’t think they get boosted packs but they do spend a boat load of money on them, edit their videos to just the highlights, and then write off thousands of dollars as business expenses. So, boosted? No. Misleading? Yes, for sure.

Can’t believe that micro transactions can be used for a tax deduction. First time I heard this I was like wtf.

Yeah, crazy stuff.
