The Pirates definitely have no pitch though
Yes we do! They're just all on other teams (Cole, Musgrove, etc, etc, etc)

Bumping this thread as we will start seeing confirmed new legends. First one is Jeter. For some reason a polarizing player. It’s not like Logan Paul was added to the game people.
Logan Paul will have a card soon enough. They lost me when they gave everybody Babe Ruth attributes.
Jeter was great, but half of that was his longevity. He wasn't the best at anything I don't think. Slow and steady wins the race tho.
They're going to have to juice his card so crazy to compete with the soon to be Ha- Seoung Kim April Topps Now card.

You had a pitcher in the mid 60’s that threw gas. Bob Veale. He was on a bad Pirates team despite having Clemente, Maz and Stargell

Haha, are you a Kim fan? He’s a total fan favorite in SD? Hope he breaks through this year. And yes, I agree, Jeter was not the best at anything, just great. I do not think he is one of the inner circle HOFers but I do think he’s much better than many give him credit for. It’s become trendy to say he’s overrated.

Even though there are so many Yankees I’m sure everyone would be happy with DiMaggio. I’d love a retro finest 1960 or 1961 Roger Maris speaking of the Yankees. Or a perfect game Don Larsen

Jeter is such a big addition for the franchise, but if we could add just one more legend from the Yankees can we please get Bernie Williams. There would be no complaints from me if we saw someone like DiMaggio or maybe Andy Pettitte. However, Bernie was my favorite as a kid and his best card would probably find itself at the top of many lineups.
Cecil Fielder. I know he's a one-dimensional player being a power-hitting first basemen, but he would be a great addition especially with Prince back in the game. You hit a no doubter with him and even your opponent will replay it.
The game could use more dominant left-handed starters and I think that Johan Santana would be a solid option with his stuff and overall pitch mix. People forget how dominant that guy was in his prime during the mid 2000s.
On that note, give me David Wells too just because he was a big personality and had a rubber arm.
Jose Reyes would be a popular card because he was a switch-hitter with great speed and a really compact swing.
A great Kevin Brown card would probably wind up on most endgame rotations. His stuff was so nasty with that heavy sinker which we know is still the most effective pitch in the game.
Norm Charlton/Randy Myers/Sparky Lyle/Jesse Orosco would all be welcome additions as there still aren't enough quality lefty relievers in the game.
People may argue, but with Cishek and O'Day retiring they will most likely not be in the game anymore which creates a pretty big void when it comes to bullpen options with a funky delivery. The two pitchers that I would love to see added would be Jeff Nelson and Dan Quisenberry. Cheap or not, that sidearm/submarine release slinging frisbee sliders would make them good pen options when you need something fancier than an outlier fastball. Maybe go the Moneyball route even with Chad Bradford.
Carlos Gonzalez isn't a favorite, but I had a small sample size with him back in The Show 20 - my first baseball videogame in over a decade - and he had one of the best swings ever. The only issue was that they released his best card in like January so the game was pretty dead by then and he hasn't been back since.
Nomar Garciaparra is probably a top want for a lot of Boston fans outside of Manny Ramirez. His prime was cut short, but he was the face of that organization for a while and I would honestly just love to see his batting stance in the game.
Speaking of the Red Sox, if this "Captain's Choice" pack for the upcoming game will be featuring cards for players who were captain of their team, then Jason Varitek would be a great addition.
David Wright is another that would be a perfect fit for this program/collection especially after he wasn't included this past year with them bringing back almost all of the previous cover athletes.
I said that I was done with requests for the Yankees, but if the focus is on former captains then Thurman Munson has to be discussed.
A prime Darryl Strawberry card would probably be irreplaceable in my outfield. I would love to see one of the sweetest swings ever finally in the game.
Juan Gonzalez was one of the most feared hitters in the 1990s, but is seemingly forgotten by many when discussing the power bats of his era. Griffey was still the king growing up for my generation, but all the cool kids in peewee were replicating that Juan Gonzalez batting stance. He would be a monster in the game for sure.
At this point I can admit to just being a sucker for a unique batting stance so let's throw in Chuck Knoblauch for fun. His style was so odd that when it comes to how it would translate to The Show, he would either have one of the best glitchy swings in the game or the outright worst with absolutely no in-between.

A good dustin pedroia card and Carlton Fisk would be awesome

Cecil Fielder….Darryl Strawberry….Nomar (No-mahh)….Juan Gonzalez….etc…etc…nearly every awesome player from an awesome time in baseball…..etc etc….
Hey there partner! I happened upon your (extremely well written and straight up fun to read) wonderful post a little bit ago and just wanted to take a few min to agree with what ‘Ericulous1’ said in his message a couple back ago…I bet there’s a good number of people who was reading that with a smile on their face! Ain’t it something how everyone’s Baseball DNA had a tendency to seep out into even the typewritten word - haha - immediately “outing” one’s self to their fellow brothers in baseball upbringing!? Man, all I kept thinking was, “man, I could talk baseball with this feller for days!” I know that I’m not the only one by a long stretch, either! I have a feeling that I could’ve swapped baseball card albums with you somewhere back in the mid to late 1990’s and wouldn’t have lost out on a single card! Haha! Thank you for sharing that, and I’d like to say that you have great taste in baseball talent! That really was a great post!
PS I want to play too, despite the fact of you nailing it! Here’s a few more names that immediately came to mind when I read your list, as well as the one Ericulous1 left (both of which were awesome, btw):
How’s bout Pete Incaviglia, Razor Shines, Dave Steib (wiffle baller extraordinaire), Lenny Dykstra, Dale Murphy, HoJo (1st IF to join 30/30 club), Jesse Barfield (he was cannon…when cannon wasn’t cool), Dave Cone, Kent Tekulve, Benito Santiago…here’s one…much has been said about Jesse Winker off the bench, but imagine bringing in Lee Mazilli (or Mark Carreon!) in to pinch hit hahaha! That guy could get a double while being intentionally walked…so long as you brought him in off the bench! Platoon him into the lineup and he’ll give you 0-4, but bring him in to PH and the man sprays BBs like ‘The Salad Shooter’ slings cucumber slices!
-
I want Dale Murphy and Phil Niekro back. I know, I know a knuckle baller. Just make him usable offline against the cpu.

Jesse Orosco
Tug McGraw
Sparky Lyle

Dale Murphy was IT when it came to the Braves roster back in the 80’s, was he not!? I remember watching a game back then and thinking that if you took their lineup and put them in an issue of ‘Field & Stream’ that they would look more at home! Everyone had a beard and bit of a belly except for Murph, who was ball player extraordinaire. I remember one of the announcers during a game saying that he had originally came to them as a catcher but every time he would try to throw out a runner at second the ball would end up past the outfielders hahaha so they made him an outfielder. He sure was awesome!
The Neikro brothers were such awesome junk ballers! I would just about swear to the fact that I once saw Joe try and slip an emory board past an umpire once after someone had requested them go out and check him for contraband on the mound! If it wasn’t him then it was probably Gaylord Perry…actually it was probably both haha.
Man, you just made me think of an awesome potential caveat to the game…have a quirk where you tamper with the ball or spray stickum on your hands before you head out to the bump. The position players could have greenies or andro bottles stashed in their lockers…oh man you could make it so fun! I won’t even go into what kind of boosts you could receive when playing at home as a member of the Houston Astros! Hahaha!
PS I’m just havin’ a bit of fun there…and I know to those of us who are true fans of these clubs they don’t wanna hear it, and I meant no disrespect. I love my team too and hate when they get ran down no matter how deserving of it but I never take it personally. If we can’t rib each other now and then though what fun could there be in that? I personally feel like it’s one of the great joys about being a fan of baseball!

Land us Rusty Staub!!Great list, partner! Staub sure could put a launch on the baseball! Jesse Orosco is probably still playing somewhere in a league where Bartolo Colon is waiting to be old enough to get in the league! I’ll never forget Orosco’s performance in the 1986 postseason with the great NY Mets…there are few who witnessed it that could. He truly had an awesome career and great longevity and how about that Slider!?!
