You say get off my lawn but it's mostly the baseball old heads that are saying these sorts of things tbh. People love the NFL playoffs and March Madness because the better team doesn't always win. As soon as it happens to the biggest teams in baseball it's an abomination though apparently lol
You are 100% correct here. Upsets are fun. But the Dodgers and Braves didn't get screwed, they just didn't win. It happens. Their regular season accomplishment allowed them to skip a round. That's huge. What more can we do for them short of just placing them in the NLCS automatically and eliminating the rest of the playoffs?
If we expect those with best regular season records to show up to the World Series every time, why even have playoffs? This would also mean that the 2001 Mariners "should" have been in the World Series and "should" have won it without having to play any baseball games after its 162-game season with its 116 wins. The Mariners "should" not be on the short list (of one team!) of who have never been to the World Series! The best regular season teams must still play and must win the playoff games to be called World Series Champions!

It is because baseball is a 162-game season. That is almost 10 times more games than football, more than twice as many as basketball and hockey. Baseball season is too long. For the season to be that long, why is the best of 5 determining who goes to the ALCS/NLCS? Play two less regular season games and 2 more games in the ALDS/NLDS. I am not a homer of any teams in the playoffs, but I am a fan of a hard floor and a hard cap in sports. Could you imagine what the NFL would look like if there wasn't a cap?
Not that I'm necessarily against this, but if the Dodgers or Mets had lost in a best of 7, there would still be a complaint.
Definitely, but at least they couldn't blame the format, lol.

Are you seeing articles making excuses for why the Dodgers, Braves, Mets and Cardinals were eliminated so early? Screaming from the mountaintops that the new playoff structure is unfair?
If you had the choice of playing a 3 game series in New York against a 101 win team and facing the two headed dragon of Degrom and Scherzer while risking elimination or going bowling and appearing on Jimmy Kimmel what would you choose?
Stop making excuses. Your team lost. My team lost. The other teams won. The new playoff structure isn't designed to destroy the Dodgers, maybe work on your baseball game and not on your bowling or at least stop making excuses.
And get off my lawn.
My only complaint and it was like this last year to even before the playoffs started. The Best record team should play the worst record team, After the wild card game, the dodger should have played the Phillies, They might of still lost, and the Padres should have played the Braves. I do think baseball at some point will add 4 more teams. I do think it was odd that the wild card games had no travel day so the best team got 3 games at home. The dodger beat themselves and bad managing in game 4 by roberts and the upper management cause of analytics is over used by the dodgers organization.
