All the team on the maps are minding their own business but your team comes and invades them. It's like colonialism by dividing and conquering, taking over their lands, and exploiting their resources for rewards.
Don't even mention that the entire mode your team is a genocider. Killing each and every territory and stronghold and leaving nothing left of the previous civilization. Taking their strong holds and putting your flag/logo onto them.
Just an observation.
Technically, they are doing the same thing as they advance into the field upon the first turn. Though I love your premise, really we are only the occupying force if we are successful and win.

I envision my army's invading territories, slaughtering helpless peasants, pillaging at will, and humiliating the local baseball team as a final insult.
After the game, the opposing players are crucified outside of the abandoned stadium.
Then, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre River Cows move on, leaving the city in ruins....but that's just me.
