Event matchmaking

I play most events until 20-30 wins and can confirm you will be playing someone above average most games no matter your record. I usually have a win percentage of about 75-80% by the time I tap out, but there’s a lot of frustration and bottom of the 3rd comebacks in there along with the early rage quits/DCs.

I'll never understand how matchmaking in events are determined. I'm a very below average player but every time I decide to get into an event I play guys way above my skill level and get killed in most games.
I don't play alot of events for this reason, I want to try and get the rewards but getting matched up against far superior players time after time is getting oldEvent matchmaking is based on the current entry. If it's your first game, you will go up against someone else that is just starting out. Overall skill, record, and BR or ranked seasons performance is all irrelevant. The more games you win in an entry, the higher your level is for that entry and theoretically you would match up with other players with a similar number of wins. It's the same way BR works.
The problem is that there is no incentive to continue an entry in events this year. Lineups are saved, streak rewards suck, and you can tank 4 out of 5 rotation spots to lower your team overall which helps to get under the limit when there is one. Play one game with your top starter, then forfeit and reenter to get stamina back. I'm not saying it's right or wrong to do that. I'm just saying that is what most people do since SDS hasn't come up with a way to dissuade the strategy.
Next year they may want to try limiting the overall on individual cards instead of team overall. That would give less incentive for tanking your rotation, although people may still forfeit and reenter to use their favorite starter. Better streak rewards could help to keep you in a run, which means more variety on starting pitchers seen and a decrease in how often you see top tier players in a game one scenario. Maybe a limited number of forfeits per event? I do like that you can forfeit, but its currently a little OP. Maybe they can just adjust the current system a bit, but i have a feeling they will either leave it as is, or throw out the baby with the bathwater.
Something definitely should be done if they don't want people abusing the system. We all know what they would say though.
It's working as intended.

All I know is every game I played tonight was against some team whose record was 33-3 or 89-2 or 68-7 or whatever. This was the Moonshot Event, so basically it's really good hitters going up against really terrible pitchers. Throw in top teams, and suddenly I'm down 8-0 before I've even come up to bat. Forget it.

The easiest solution would just be to have energy for pitchers in events. Yeah there has been a lot of anything goes events, but honestly I think a lot of us that want heavy event restrictions are few and far between. The biggest problem is that event rewards are 100x better in general than Ranked rewards(not the cards, but that is all ranked has) Above average players have absolutely no reason to play Ranked, period. I don't really think streak rewards are an issue. Event streak rewards have been the same since 18 and they weren't an issue before

One thing that has helped me is just go into games with the mindset of getting homers. If you somehow win then that is a bonus. Even the best players are going to give up homers with common pitchers.

I don't even look at records, you can tell just by looking at stats. Guy I played last night had everyone hitting over 600 and they all had a bunch of HRs so its not like the guy just started playing. Your RS rank should carry over to events, otherwise the rich get richer and the bad players like me just stop playing. I know I should get better but its hard when your opponent is sitting on both a 99 mph fastball up and in out of the zone AND the slider in the dirt and both get hit 450 feet.

This is typically my issue as well. I'm not very good online. I can't really hit but it's not so bad when you match with someone on your level. The problem is most of the people you face, can hit whatever you throw, wherever you throw it, and very very hard. I can throw a sinker or change and aim it 6 inches below the zone and they still crank it 450 feet.

Pretty much. You just ask yourself, what can you do when they hit any and everything?

I like the suggestion of RS rank carrying over but how would that work for those of us who don't play RS?

The ranking would work for both RS and Event.
So your ranking would be only based on the event. So you would start low but would work your way up as you win games. Or maybe just start an even with a default rank of 300 or something like that. -
