Hoping it’s a good Cal Ripken. Usually his cards are pretty hard to use because he has a slow swing. Maybe they’ll give him a card everyone will like. I’d love that.
This one should have 110+ hitting attributes across the board. Maybe even 115+. Looking forward to trying his swing again. I tried it in custom practice this evening and liked his stride.

If there’s anybody who wants a good Cal card it’s me. I live in Baltimore and go to Orioles games all the time. I’ll be super stoked to have Cal on SS and Brian Roberts and 2nd. I’d be super hype if they release another 99 Adley like last year. That card was insane for me. Side note Brian Roberts is really good this year. He’s put up better numbers than Jackie for me so far and hits way more tanks.

Idk how I did not know Ripken won a WS, I was like huh?
Ripken won a World Series in like 82 or 83.
Here’s a crazy baseball stat for everyone. Did you know that the Orioles had four 20 games winners in the same season? You barely see one pitcher per team hit 20 wins now. That’s mostly because there’s so many relief pitchers now.
Did this happen in the live ball era?

I’m not really sure. I wasn’t born when this happened but I bet SaveFerris knows. I do know it was in the 70s and Jim Palmer was one of the four.

1971, they won the pennant and faced the pirates in the WS.
the 1920 white sox also had 4 20 game winners.
the only 2 times it has happened. -

Just so you know the “Live Ball Era” started before petty much anyone alive was born. It began in 1920.
I appreciate the information, I didn’t know that about Baltimore. -

That would be great if they fixed his swing. He is usually slow for a middle infielder, but if they actually give him 110+ contact, power, and vision, - then I could probably deal with his under 70 speed.
I’m curious, what would make you think they would make a Cal Ripken Jr. card with power like that anyway? -

The Braves had 3 guys hit 40 HR in the same season.

the only 2 times it has happened. The 1920 White rolled with 4 starters and a swing 5th starter out of the pen. Outside of those 5 pitchers the pen only threw 64 innings all year. Guys finished games back then and there was a greater guarantee that you would finish your own start. That means that most wins and losses on the day they pitched was on them.
Also, the dead ball era had just ended in 1919 and that was tied to the emergence of Babe Ruth. So it wasn't like balls were flying in 1920.
Also, here were the average field dimensions in 1920.
Left Field Line: 345
Left Center: 401
Center Field: 453
Right Center: 371
Right Field Line: 318 -
Next hint is a real weird one. HOFer in the 1000 RBI club. Might as well just say HOFer because almost every one of them besides Ozzie smith has 1000 RBI

Harder clue this time for sure but some are speculating Johnny Bench.
Which if true, this program could potentially be the worst one since Halladay and Friends.

If they could get their swings to be usable it would be fine. Ripken, Bench, and Schmidt have had the worst swings in the game for years. It's really the only the only thing holding them back because they would be somewhat exciting otherwise

It's like they hear what the community is wanting and asking for.....and then do the total opposite.

Yeah, it does feel that way at times.
But again, there are a lot of people who don't play online much and for us, guys like Ripken and Bench are a lot of fun. I would never have known their swing was a liability if I didn't read these forums. Again, I know I'm not the best judge as I still enjoy playing on Vet or even rookie and winning 25-0. I'm still new, I'll become jaded eventually.
Oh I think the new clue might be Boggs. But Bench is just as good a guess.
-
Everyone is think it's a catcher because of the word "catch".
While possible, why would they release a 99 catcher the very next program after they released a 99 Yadi?

Bench cards should be much better than they are. One of the greatest catchers of all time and they give him a swing that makes him unusable. I would not even use his cards in conquest games. Boggs cards are usually not very good based on attributes. He was a great contact hitter and the game stopped letting guys like Gwynn, which he and Ichiro were in many people’s outfields in MLBTS 19, be good types of players.
You don’t notice the difference in swings against the CPU? Even on veteran you should be able to tell that you play better with certain players, even if the attributes are similar. I’m not saying don’t use them. Use who you have fun with. I was just saying that you should feel a difference. -
