Aquino...Rookie Series 94?
-
Alright, so I fully understand certain rating systems of cards are boosted or just fake to make them competitive at times (future stars, finest, Topps now...), but Rookie series cards traditionally have not been, until now I guess?
Series such as Awards, Signature, and Prime have boosted ratings. With Breakout, Allstar, rookie, veteran, etc. always having the same rating system as the live series.
That being said giving Aquino a 94-rated Rookie series card has to be a joke right?? There is no way that an unboosted series card for a player with terrible defense and 119 OPS+ through 56 games would ever come out to a 94. Pujols boosted Rookie of the Year Awards series card is a 95, Mookie Betts MVP season All-Star series card is a 95, and Yelich MVP season breakout series card is a 91... what is going on here?

All about the $$$$$$$.

Are people really going to spend Stubs to use Aristides Aquino though?
I would be fine if it was a flashback Topps now card, but making a Rookie series 94 of him is losing any attribute credibility they had left.

As a question do you use a created player?

I ask because in general when questions like this are asked the person asking uses a card or CAP that negates their concerns.
Now to address you concerns I think there are 3 things at play.

SDS is has changed their approach to card release this year and are being very mindful to not release 99 right away as such more cards are release for series with higher rating we are use to seeing. Which I think is an internal switch for SDS on how to scale things. I personal think this year we get less 99s then we have since 2018
-
SDS is going to release a mega tone amount of cards for collections which is where the 99s will come from as such need to inject alpt.of new cards and fudge their numbers a bit.
-
SDS is embracing a more fantasy style with some stuff resulting in these more juiced cards to show up to fit into a nerititve for example a big power bat rookie card for the moonshot event.

It’s a card, does Aquino actually deserve to get a diamond in this game over other players who probably won’t, no, but he had a moment and then became a platoon player, but it’s card, Reds fans and streamers who make team builds will use it. I’m ok with as then releasing more cards… Just hope we get another Sig soon so I can get Brett.

It's just the series that makes no sense. If this was an August 2019 POTM card it would have made perfect sense

This is exactly my point!! Thank you! I have no issue with giving him a 94 overall for a fun few months, but it should not be a rookie series.

Meh, it's not like people will be climbing over each other to use it in ranked, so I'm not very hung over what series card or what rating it is

Yeah, for sure. I just think this is proof they need to revamp the current card series concept for next year. I get into the whole card series thing more than others, probably. The progression this year is nice, this just doesn't fit into being a traditional Rookie Series

I do not mind going with more a fantasy style for card progression, they just need to revamp the card series more next year. This being a rookie series just does not follow the traditional rating systems. In general the progression of cards has been good this year, Im just picky haha
