BR pinch hitter pitching

Why is the game making my pinch hitter pitch suddenly? Like I go to the menu to put a reliever in to pitch and there isn’t an option to put him in, so it makes me throw to 3 hitters and essentially lose the game.

You can't back out of the automatic prompt to take him out

Apparently I pinch hit using Matt Davidson, who apparently has a backup position as RP, so it made me pitch with him. Weird.
