How to handle extended leads on third?
-
OK...so I really feel like I haven't had issues dealing with ridiculous base running since I first started playing the game until today. Guy was a pretty good player and when he got to third would just start hitting his bumper to extend his lead. Old school baseball is you step off the mound....here are the issues I ran into.
-
When you step off, it would not let me throw home. When it wouldn't let me, I threw to third and he went home and I didn't have time to get him.
-
He was able to hold R2 while extending his lead, so I couldn't go into my delivery.
-
I finally started just stepping off and running him back. He wouldn't stop, so after running him back three or four times I decided to pick over and the ball gets thrown down the line and he scores.
So, is there a solid solution for this? I would prefer to not have to step off all the time and run him back and I would prefer to not let him just extend his lead as much as he wants, because that makes a squeeze way too easy.

Peg the guy at bat, so that he is aware he is cheesing, then throw an outside offspeed pitch for him to roll over into a double play

Just ignore him. If you just worry about the batter he can’t steal home. Him stealing home is based off of you making a mistake (throwing to the wrong base, throwing the ball away, ect). Just ignore him & you’ll be fine.

Either ignore him and pitch the ball or keep stepping off for the next 30 minutes
