How does changing sliders affect XP, exactly?

If you change one slider by one point, does it instantly dock your XP by a certain amount, or does it depend on how many sliders you change and by how much?

The game tells you that if you alter the slides in any way you'll earn reduced XP & stubs. Last year it was originally "no XP or stubs earned" but they changed it after a lot of complaints.
Although currently at the time I'm writing this, I'm experiencing a "no XPs or stubs earned" issue so idk what's up with that
