I’m sure this has been discussed… but please help.

I’m sure there have been threads about this, but I really don’t want to scour over all the posts to find my answer.
So I have played the game on PS4 for the last 5 years, which I still plan to use at some point. But this year I purchased the digital deluxe edition on my switch first, knowing that I could cross progress etc.
Now from my understanding, because of this I will have to make my MAIN CONSOLE my switch now if I purchase on another console, correct? If this is so, how do I make it my main console? Is there even a way yet? Can we even link the switch to cross progression yet? Please any insight to this would be great. I understand I only need to purchase the base edition on my ps4, because you can not receive double bonus using the switch.

I'm in a similar boat. I played 21 on PS5, and got the digital deluxe version of 22 on Switch. I will also be playing 22 on Game Pass.
I linked and made the Switch the primary, but that caused me to lose all of my progress on 21. As far as I can tell, no one at SDS took a moment to think about what would happen if someone had a different primary console from year to year. I was able to get the PS5 progress back by unlinking, but it is now impossible for me to link PS5 and Switch without losing progress on either 21 or 22.
I currently just have Switch and Xbox on the MLB linked account. It shows my cards when I log in for Xbox on the app, but I can't know for sure that it worked until midnight. They've said preorder bonuses don't transfer. I'm hoping I'm still good since the packs were opened and they show up on my squad in the app. If those cards are missing when I log onto Xbox, I'm going to be pissed.

This is my understanding from the FAQ:
Whichever account (PS, Xbox, or Switch) you are going to use the most, or you have already used the most, should be set as your main. The FAQ calls it a Survivor account. When you initially link, you will only see your progress from your main account. Cross-progression will go from there when you play on your linked devices. If you ever unlink, your main account will keep your progress while the other account will regress to it previous state (progression).
What is happening with most people with the Xbox or Switch that link, is they are not setting their PS account (or whatever account they have been playing on) as their main account, and their progression is "lost" but not really lost. Unlinking the devices brings their progression back.
You still need a copy of the game that is compatible with the console you are playing on. Since you bought the DD version for your Switch, it sounds like you haven't bought a copy for your PS4. If you want to play the game on your PS4, you will need a copy for that console also (buying the standard edition is the least expensive). It sounds like you have been playing on your Switch, so, if you ever go to link the game with your PS4, be sure to make your Switch account as the Survivor account so you will see your current progression.
Now, after typing all of this...I will know first hand tomorrow when I link my Switch to my PS account if what they are telling us is true. I hope it is.

What a conundrum! I never thought about the past games but that makes sense because it's by account, not by game.
The bonuses won't transfer but the FAQ and the video say that the full inventory will be available across platforms. Of course, that means that whichever account you have your inventory on must be your primary account for that to happen.
I'm supposed to get a gold pack with my Switch preorder and it is sounding like it's pointless because my PS account will be my primary account and only my inventory from there will be shared. At least it's just a few gold cards, which I'll eventually stop using anyway.
