How To Change Username
-
Does anyone know how to change the mlb or the show profile username on the Nintendo Switch? I was prompted to enter one when starting up the game for the first time, not thinking that it was permanent. Not sure why it would not just automatically use my Nintendo account name.

My son is having the same issue. One of his friends created a user name that is highly offensive and now he can’t change it. I’ve contacted SDS and The Show they don’t care and won’t do anything.

Just wondering if either of you two have the PS or XBox version as well as the Switch.

I bought the switch version first and planned to pickup the PS5 version. I won’t be doing that now out of principle due to the fact that SDS has such horrible customer service. I contacted them on 4/2 and received a link from someone named Miguel 2 weeks later. Miguel sent me a link having nothing to do with my issue, and ghosted me. All of my responses went unanswered after that. SDS won’t give you 5 minutes of their precious time to help resolve an issue. Loyal customer tossed aside, have a nice day.

You may want to try a new support ticket now. They might be less slammed and may actually read the ticket. I put in a ticket on 4/1 because I lost all of my progress in MLB The Show 21 when I linked the Switch. The issue was my primary platform for 21 is PS5, and for 22 it is Switch. It is literally impossible with the system they have in place to not lose progress in one game or the other if I link. I received canned responses from both Miguel and Joseph that were less than useless, and it was clear that they either didnt actually read my messages, or they had no idea what I was talking about.
I eventually gave up. I unlinked my PS5 and left the Switch and Xbox linked. The issue isnt going away though. If i want the Switch linked to another console for future games, I'm basically forced to make Switch the primary and I can only link to Xbox since I like to go back to the old games every once in a while. That means if I want digital deluxe I'm stuck with the Switch again, whereas if I could do it all over again i would probably stick with Xbox first and wait for a sale on the Switch version.

This is correct. Linking is a parent-child relationship. The parent, or the system you select as your primary, will progress with the activity from both the parent and child AFTER they are linked.
The systems DO NOT MERGE assets or progress. This is not a merging process.
No activity performed by the child system is lost after linking. When you unlink, it is still there.
We knew this from last year when they brought the XBox online with MLBTS. It is the exact same behavior.
If the systems are unlinked, the parent system will keep all progress made while the systems were linked and the child system will revert back to the progress state it was at before the linking process.
After linking, if the progress you wanted as your parent is no longer there, then you selected the wrong system as your parent. Unlink and relink selecting the system you want as your parent system.
As for the name issue. You can create different users, and change their names on the Switch. MLBTS will pick up the active username on the Switch when the game is started. The username and Nintendo account name do not have to be the same thing.
To change a username (Nickname) on the Switch:
- Go to settings.
- Scroll down to Users.
- Touch the icon for the user you want to change.
- Touch Nickname.
- Change the name to what you want.
Keep in mind, Nintendo has a character limit (my PS username is too long, so I had to make my NIN username shorter).

Going forward they really need switch to a linking system where you can set the "parent" platform on a game to game basis (21 vs. 22 vs. the eventual 23). It's been almost a month and I'm still kind of annoyed that no one on the dev team thought this would be an issue at some point.

It might be a deeper issue, like getting Microsoft, NIN, and PS to agree on the code to make this happen. It may not be because they didn’t think about it or that they didn’t want it to happen. It could be corporate politics and proprietary issues. Corporations rarely think of anyone but their stockholders, while game developers always want to please their users. Cut them some slack and work within the parameters they can give us. I’m sure when they are able to, they will change the system. It’s not like they don’t know it’s an issue.
