This moves the needle for COL little to none, let Nolan and Story walk and sign a lesser player in Bryant. They just let anyone be a GM these days lol
“lesser player”
A healthy Bryant is undeniably better than Arenado or Story. Even with being injured/playing through injuries for basically the last 4 seasons, he still has a better wRC+ than both of them in that time span, not to mention a better career wRC+. It’s funny how Arenado’s wRC+ in 2021 looked suspiciously similar to his road numbers from previous years too. They both have better defense than Bryant of course, but a healthy Bryant with decent defense and his bat makes for a better combination than Arenado’s or story’s. The question isn’t if Bryant is better than them (he is), but if he can stay healthy enough to put up the kinds of seasons he’s capable of.
Agree to disagree haha. I get what you are saying and I like Bryant, certainly no bias, I'd love for him to play right field or DH for my Cardinals. From 2015-2017 he was the better player, not by a huge margin but the numbers bare that out. That was 5 years ago. Bryant played 147 games in 2019 and 144 in 2021 so he was healthy and Arenado outshined him both seasons. And I'm sorry, but just like our Posey v. Molina debate, health and longevity matter. If I'm an owner ( gross) I'd take the guy who stays on the field and maybe is slightly less spectacular at peak health than the guy who woulda, shoulda, coulda but never quite reaches it year after year.
They are both still fairly young and Bryant could once again surpass Arenado especially now that the script is flipped and he's in Colorado. We shall see.
Defensively, Arenado is a generational talent. When it's said and done, he may surpass Brooks Robinson for most gold gloves at 3rd, he's at 9 already.
My whole point isn’t about whether the contract is worth it or a good deal for the Rockies. You could absolutely make the case that it isn’t because of Bryant’s injury history. The point is that Kris Bryant, when healthy (it’s well documented that he was playing through various injuries in 18, 19, 20, and 21) is statistically better than any season Nolan Arenado has ever had. Just because a guy is on the field, doesn’t mean he’s healthy. I’m not going to judge Arenado based on one season, but it’s certainly interesting that his offense took such a massive dip once he left Coors. And I’ve said it before, but gold gloves are basically meaningless to me. Ryan McMahon was a better fielder at 3B in 2021, but didn’t win because he isn’t a big name, proving the point that Gold Gloves put too much emphasis on popularity when popularity shouldn’t be a factor whatsoever.

I get you have a clear bias against Bryant, but let’s be real and actually look at the stats before saying things lmao. I agree that it’ll take a lot more than Bryant (or any one player) to make that Rockies team be good though lol
Bryant is not better than either Nolan or Story.
This is a totally unbiased statement I’m sure. You can make somewhat of an argument for Arenado currently due entirely to Bryant’s injuries in recent seasons (healthy bryant is undeniably statistically better though), but there’s literally no statistical argument to be made for Story being a better player than healthy Bryant.
Higher WAR.
Last 4 years, Trevor Story, 17.1 fWAR
Last 4 years, Kris Bryant, 11.3 fWARStory > Bryant
Bryant’s injuries and the fact that he frequently played through them instead of sitting out have been well documented the last 4 years. That’s why we’re comparing healthy seasons. And even with playing through injuries, Bryant still had a better wRC+ in that time frame than Story and Arenado. Let me know when Story puts up a 7 fWAR season, or even three 6 fWAR seasons in a row.

Availability ties into being the better player. You're looking for excuses now.

It just sounds like you’re upset that even while being injured for 4 years, Bryant was still a better hitter than Story and Arenado. You’re the one changing the argument from healthy Bryant being undeniably statistically better than Story and Arenado, to Bryant being a worse player because he performs worse when injured. My argument is purely statistical, yours is opinion oriented.

Last 4 years. 4 years. 4. Four. Quatro. 4 years. Thats 1, 2, 3, 4. 2021 2020 2019 2018. 4 years.
Story has had higher fWAR. fWAR is a statistic. Story > Bryant since 2018.
