Elden Ring

Anyone else excited? I'm hearing its being praised as potentially the greatest video game ever made, metacritic has it as a 97 and even IGN gave it a perfect 10.
One of my favorite soulsborne YTers even claims its one of, if not the greatest open world game hes played. Needless to say my hype meter has skyrocketed the past 12 hours.

My buddy at work took the day off hahaha. And no, he is not sick. He showed me BloodBorne which I suck at and he crushes. I imagine he's been playing non stop since it's release.

Fortunately Elden Ring is actually amazing. Its also [censored] huge.

Anyone who is part of LankyRyans discord channel has wished id shut up about Elden Ring. It may very well be the greatest game ever made.

I am passing on it. I am knee deep in Horizon Forbidden West (it was the reason I did not even bother with the tech test).
I have nothing against Elden Ring but I own and have played Demon Souls (the original), Dark Souls 1-3 and Bloodborne and only actually finished one of them so it seems silly to pay full price for the new one based on that track record. I appreciate them for what they are but I have a low threshold for frustration and they do make me frustrated.

Thats fair because Elden Ring is easily more difficult than all of them.
EDIT: And this is coming from someone who has 100% Demons Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2 (3x mind you), and im 98% in Dark Souls 3.

Will definitely be picking it up eventually. Been dumping my time into Horizon Zero Dawn Forbidden West and Sifu lately. Both amazing.

Yep. At least that is the plan. I have not pre-ordered or anything yet. I need to make sure I finish with Horizon Forbidden West before paying for something else. Plus, I would not mind seeing a review or two and watching a little bit of the campaign/progression since that is what am most interested in.

The actual day 1 patch made it worse by most accounts. They have had another one since then but I am not sure of the current status. Judging from the steam forums there are still users with issues but you never know if that is a game issue or a user/pc issue.

Yeah I'm hearing PC is a mess right now. I'm fortunate enough to have a PS5 and am loving it.

So watching some streams of this and seeing the same souls formula and animations. Only fans of the souls genre were allowed to review this game lol biased

That is kind of always a thing. Big outlets with multiple reviewers end up assigning reviews to the people that are most in tune with the genre.
No sense giving Elden Ring to your sports game enthusiast gamers just like you would not assign MLB the show to your Dark Souls fan.
I keep hearing people say it is more approachable but not necessarily easier. By that they mean that because it is an open world users should not get hung up on one boss or encounter that halts your progress. You can always head off to another area.
