Anyone who fully understands attributes...

SDS

It's my first season and I'm finally venturing online and having fun with BR. I am still trying to understand how the attributes effect gameplay other than just higher = better. Obviously I get that 125 power is better than 115.

An example, I've heard the higher a pitcher's H/9, the smaller the hitter's PCI. Or that a higher Vision will increase the PCI. Stuff like that.

In general I'm just trying to have a deeper understanding of how to interpret attributes and quirks, more than just higher=better. Which ones are most important?

Thanks all, sorry if this is an elementary question, I just never took the time to figure this out but now that I'm playing more than just Rookie against cpu, it will be helpful.

From a dev regarding the vision attribute :

"Essentially yes. It allows for an elite hitter to make contact with worse timing then say an average hitter with that same timing."

Attributes affects a cards expected performance based on the users controller skills. A card with higher attributes will easily preform better then a card with much lower attributes.

When it's a Pitcher vs. Hitter with very high attributes, they basically will debuff each other in certain areas. This balances enough so neither Pitcher or Hitter having a huge edge or advantage over each other.

The oppisite now happens with overall higher attributes vs. lower attibutes. A Common or Bronze Hitters Card will not have consistent success agains 95+ Diamond Pitchers. This is why in Ranked everyone tries using the highest attributed players with which they feel most comfortable & succesful with. It's having their personal created All Star team & being on same level of teams they are pllaying against.

However finally what matters most is how someone plays with controller skills & timing. You could have a team of 25 Meta 99 Diamond Cards, but if your timing & controller skills are horrible, then having that 99 Meta team will not help or even matter.

Player ratings don't matter at all, comparatively to user abilities. In this game, your either good, or your not. You either have patience and can see and react to the pitch speed and location in the zone, or you swing at everything. I have an 86/90 McMahon with 72 home runs. He's my leading hr hitter.
I can usually tell my opponents abilities within the first 3 innings, and I'm sure they can see mine. Hopefully they suck at this game too. So we can battle 0-0, throw no hitters, and win by trying to bunt, and stealing home in the 15th inning on a strike 3 in the dirt. Or the classic 27 strike outs, but 1 hit, 1 home run. Win! Those are always fun too.

Hahahaha, well that's one take. I get that a player's skill level is more important than the attributes but if attributes don't matter then why does everyone flip if a pitcher has less than a 115 h/9 or no outlier.

I'm trying to understand the tangible effects and results of attributes. For instance

  • If a pitcher has outlier, his pitch can go to 102.

  • If a Pitcher has a high H/9, the hitters PCI is smaller.

I'm asking what else is effected by these attributes... not in how the game turns out but technically.

So....Does K/9 do anything other than increase the likelihood of a K? What do vision, clutch, steal, bag aggression etc do other than increase the likelihood of a result?

Where is this quote from? Someone did some type of testing and proved vision matters because players with higher vision have a slightly better timing window. SDS chimed in saying that it does. Now, I have been playing for a few years so it may have been last year or even 19, so maybe things are different this year.

Maybe the above quote is what I am thinking of, but I am not too sure.

K/9 and vision - outer pci size
H/9 and contact - inner pci size

Clutch comes into play with a risp (2nd base or 3rd), and not sure to the extent pitching vs batter clutch has an effect. Some more transparency on SDS’ end would resolve many of the unknowns.

That is a good example of what I'm talking about. So higher Vision gives the hitter a larger timing window?

According to the devs, yes.
