What if RS raking didn't reset each month?
-
Little backstory about me. The highest I've ever made in MLB the Show was Wild Card back in 2018 when I could still catch up with a fastball. But I play another game, little game called chess. You might have heard of me in that game - don't dox me or whatever but my real name is Bobby Fischer.
Here's how chess and RS have something in common. They use the exact same ranking system. It is called the 'elo' system, but that's actually short for the full name: 'elo chess'.
Here's how chess and RS differ. In chess, if I achieve rank 2200, and then don't play for 3 weeks, my ranking stays at 2200. It doesn't drop to 1800 just cause 3 weeks have passed. If it did, I'd be playing people at rank 1800 even though I'm truly rank 2200.
Imagine if I didn't play for 8 weeks. In chess, my ranking would remain 2200. In RS, my ranking would be 400. I'd be playing people that just bought the game yesterday.
If RS rankings didn't drop each month, the matchmaking complaints would all solve themselves.
The rewards system would need to be reworked but SDS is filled with smart people they can do it!

Yo this is the MLB the show forum. They didn’t install the Taco Bell drive thru yet. So either move your car or we are going to tow.

This is like a low rent version of "sir, this is a Wendy's"

I respect your chess prowess mister Fischer but chess and MLB The Show are two totally different animals
With your theory, imagine making World Series the first ranked season and then never having to earn that again. New season? Boom, you have the WS reward and have to play your games on legend difficulty until you lose
No thank you. Check mate

Unfortunately the game caters to the more regular player for basically everything. They do allow for an easier path to gain rewards if you get a late start and they do a decent job of allowing every card to be obtained. The game has its flaws and it’s fun to read people’s ideas on enhancing the experience.
I believe most people that comment on here, comment because they enjoy the game as a whole. Your idea isn’t unrealistic, but I think you may be in a small group that feels this way. If you choose to play this game online in any competitive capacity you have to be active. Sometimes that’s just the way it is. Not everything SDS decides to do will be liked by all. This is not to say that they couldn’t and won’t change. But if this structure works for the masses, what is compelling SDS to change this?

I tried to address this with the last sentence of my post. I can think of no less than 5 good ways to address this concern, and I'm half the man that Ramone is, so he can think of 10!

True story about me. When I first started playing the Show, it was before SDS even existed. But what I meant to say was that when I first started playing DD, it was in MLB the Show 17. I bought it for 10 dollars used on a weird second hand store on the internet, and I got it that cheap because I bought it in December, and it arrived in mid January.
The "season" of DD was well over by that time, but I didn't know about "seasons", because I hadn't ever played DD. So I played DD starting in January because it's fun. Then, when I had a bunch of great diamonds and could smoke the computer at ease, I figured heck, I'll go online and see if I'm as good as the vCPU games make me feel like.
My ranking ebbed and flowed over time. I remember being pumped about making pennant race. I remember telling my brother that I made wild card on a bad internet connection and thus I'm probably elite. This whole time, it was the "forever season", where rankings did not reset. I didn't know they DID reset. I didn't know that there were rewards in RS. I just knew I was slowly climbing the table.
A couple months later, February or March, I made World Series. I got a banner and no reward cards. I was thrilled. I bought 18. Then I found out that rankings reset all the time during the season and I THREW UP IN MY MOUTH AND SWALLOWED IT, I was so let down.

That was probably from all the taco bell

people always talk about what ranking they are. Some are "world series" players. Some are wild carders. The truth is, we'll never know who achieved what and who didn't, because there isn't enough time in a month to find out before everything gets erased back to ground zero. I don't like that. I want to know how good my opponent is by his ranking, and him mine. Why is how good we are such a secret? I say let's put it out in the open, F it.

Honestly, Taco Bell gets a bad rap but it's not bad. Way back in my better days, I once spent a summer working a weird split-fast-food restaurant, Subway on the east end and taco bell on the west end. I was a sandwich artist but we shared a dishwashing area so I saw and washed all the taco bell used dishes. It wasn't bad. Taco bell gets a bad rap.
Now, Dairy Queen? I'd rather eat the leather off my all-vinyl shoes than eat another burger there. Uhhhh-uhhh.

I would turn it around and ask if i could only ever played in AS difficulty.
No interest in the pain of HoF or Legend.

honestly boss, ive made WS 5 times this year, but I'm at the point where i'm chill with playing in the 400s. I dont need a virtual ranking to know my skill.
