Comparing 21 (DD) to Other Games and Other Versions of the Show
-
Throughout my life I haven't been the biggest gamer...just played a few games here and there and never really did much online gaming. The amount of time I have played this game and played online is nowhere close to anything else I have ever done...so I really have nothing to compare it to. I have had a ton of fun, but definitely experience the same frustrations with gameplay as others. I am genuinely intrigued on how this game compares to other games and past versions of The Show. Here are a few questions I have...feel free to answer any or all of them.
-
Not talking server type issues...are the gameplay complaints (off pci hits, unreal stamina, etc.) similar to other video games?
-
It sounds like people liked older versions of The Show (maybe around 17)...was the gameplay better on older versions?
-
More and more there seem to be complaints on scripted gameplay online...this is the most frustrating component of all of this for myself. I am not the greatest...but hate winning and losing games where it just seems like random junk caused the win. Are there games where user input is a stronger factor or is the random component common in all games? I understand the argument that it causes more people to be interested and spending time in the game, but I am just curious if most other games are designed the same way.
I am really not trying to start a complaint thread...just curious what the norm is for these things.

In order for me:
17 (debatable between 16 and 17)
16 (see above. Content wasnt the best for both but gameplay was A+)
19 (great all-around game after the sh!tshow that was 18)
21 (apart from servers and the recent patch, I like)
20 (defense was abysmal for first 2 months)18 (would go even lower if I could, softball speed pitches, the never ending supply of hats and other junk, the exorbitant amount of grinding for immortals which gave basically no lineup diversity)
And I used to love the older versions of DD where you used made up players and boosted their attributes. Those to me, were the best years of DD. Yeah I’m that old and have played DD that long

Game has gone down hill from 17. 18 was an all around disaster IMO. 19 usually gets some credit from people but I think that has a lot to do with how bad 18 was. IMO 19, 20 and this year game are basically the same game. They may have different issues but the core issues are the same.

DD this year sets the bar for Team Builder/Ultimate team modes across the sports genre. This is how these modes should be, it’s almost completely NMS, its refreshing.

21
19
20Thats the order id rank them. Server issues and crashes were rampant in 17 and imo its the only reason its not ranked any higher than where it is.

I think ‘18 is now the new standard for how bad anything is.
“How’s that new car? It’s horrible but not as bad as MLBTS 18”

Thanks guys...I guess as far as DD goes it looks like '21 is about middle of the pack. I would have hated to see these forums in '18. LOL

Think of The Titanic. Now picture the guy hitting the propeller.

I played 18 offline only (RTTS and Franchise, I never played online games back then).
I got 20 and started online. It was fun. I didn't really face many issues. Played around 100 RS games and have something like 74-29 record.
21 is awful. Too many bugs like others have mentioned (stamina, off-pci hrs, batters almost getting hit when bunting which leads to a single). Gameplay this year just feels like it took a giant leap back compared to 20 for me.
I didn't play a baseball game before 18 all the way back to MVP 2004. I won't be buying 22 and I only play 21 to use the stubs I've accumulated. I'm going to devote more time to Diablo 2 Resurrected.

In terms of content and layout 21 has been by far the best, in terms of gameplay 16-17 were the best. DD this year as I said set the new standard for team builders, a ton of good cards available for free, even made BR rewards more attainable. Its refreshing to not be fleeced for 100’s of dollars to build a competitive team.

You remove the check swings from 20 and its the best game. But my god they were far to rampant they literally ruined my desire to play.

That and I remember the defense being atrocious to start the year (even a few months).
Outfielders being camped under the ball only to have it hit them in the face and fall for a hit. Happened wayyyy too often
Sometimes it would bounce off their face and would catch it off the deflection lol. Was ridiculous

Um, players wouldn’t/couldn’t catch a ball for the first 2 months of ‘20, considering catching a baseball is a big part of baseball I can’t see how ‘20 would ever be considered the best version of this game.
-
17 was the best in terms of gameplay. 16 had one glaring flaw that really ruined it: Bunt cheese. I would take 21 over 20 for raw gameplay because of no pitches warping down the middle and check swings are greatly improved. 21's servers have been real bad though. As far as content goes its 21>20>19>16>17>18 IMO. I think 17's content is massively overrated. The griffey program was almost impossible without boosting, content was only released twice a month and Pepe was a massive grind that locked you out of two of Pepe, Chipper, and Pujols. Beltran was the only reason people miss the ticket counter.

They fixed it later on. If we included every issue into each game even after a patch then functionally 21 would be the best.

people forget how broken 17 was, 17 was the year of "just late" being rewarded with 400 foot tanks to right field on inside up and in pitching, 18 was awful, 19 honestly after the patch in early fall the game was pretty great, 20 was awesome, 21 is a trial year for cross play, games been wonky all year. They just have to balance the game with the feedback system, if the feed back system was a bat instead of a giant circle it would be way more understandable.

Feedback hasn’t worked properly since they introduced it. Should just get rid of it

17 also had e-sport tags that were never distributed lol
