Respect the streak - Crash Davis

Not complaining about the eventual loss, and I'm torn on resting players during this crazy run.
But with the lineup they put out there I don't think they cared about extending the streak.

I think it was an amazing run. You have to respect what they accomplished and not dwell on extending a winning streak. Of course they wanted to win, today’s game doesn’t allow for players to play every day.

Freeman, Dansby and Riley beg to differ! 156 games played. leading the NL

I really don't blame them for giving guys a breather, especially Yadi obv. But I assure you none of those players wanted to sit and they wanted to go for the record.

Momentum is one of those weird things in sports that is a very real thing. Sure you can say the smart thing to do is rest them, but that just often isn't the case. Crash Davis had a lot of wisdom...not just about messing with streaks.

Yes, I honestly was not aware of that. If only all ball clubs allowed their players to play, that would be great. I guess many teams that pay huge salaries don’t want their players to get hurt. It just is a bit annoying to see someone who is young and healthy, plus getting paid to play, sits out so often.
I don’t claim to be omniscient on baseball team’s roster’s stats (far from it,) I just noticed a change in today’s game then the days of Cal Ripken Jr.By the way, I like your username.

I agree with the high salaried folks sitting. yea you can't get hurt on the bench, but you can't produce either. If they do get hurt, insurance covers the salary anyway, so just play. I wish they all wanted to play like those 3 Braves do, put me in coach, i'm ready to play!! Big change from the days of Cal. one of those records that will never get broken!
Thanks! much appreciated!

Honestly, I think it is the team’s manager and/or front office that doesn’t want to play them everyday. At least most of them. I agree with you that they can’t produce while on the bench. Isn’t that what they get big salaries for? Because they have the ability to put runs on the board, not their ability to sit on the bench?!
Ripken’s record is here to stay. It’s a different game. -

There are players that I have seen get angry when the manager doesn’t let them play. I think it was either Cole when he was with Houston or Max when Washington played Houston in the WS. They wanted to come in for relief and when the manager didn’t let them they got heated, throwing things in the dugout, etc. I know those are pitchers, but the position players know if they’re going to be forced to rest beforehand. We don’t know what’s fought for in the locker rooms. Honestly, some players benefit from a day’s rest. I just don’t like when teams such as the Yankees sit two top players in an important game. It’s just a different game. We take out pitchers, no matter how well they are pitching, just because they hit their allowed pitch count.
