Why is he still a silver?
I’m just looking at the home run leaders on the year. Most of the players on that list are diamond with a couple of golds (Duvall, Haniger, BLowe, etc).I know there is a three year precedent but, there are only a couple Mariners in history with more 20+ home run seasons (Kyle has 5) and they are guys like Griffey Jr, Jay Buhner, and Edgar Martinez.

.215 avg plus stats over his 3 year period have been underwhelming. Silver is only because he has pop or he would be a bronze

Of course it is you who answers. Tons of other players on that list are not hitting for average. Also, he was gold at the end of 2019 and got bumped down to silver to start the year in 2020 arbitrarily.
He’s also third in the league in rbi since the break.
Find me another player with 26 home runs this year that is silver?
Austin Riley would be the next one at #17 on the list.
Tied for 9th in the league in bombs, 76 OVR.

I think his last 3 years and his mediocre fielding are holding him back. Other guys (Gallo, Duvall, etc.) with low BA have solid defense to help them out.

Not sure it matters that it was "him" who answered...whatever that means. The thing is he told you the truth. He has been mediocre the last 3 years. His stats this year still do not pull a 3 year stat line up enough to justify a gold....yet. You asked, he answered.

Duvall , Haniger and Lowe all have other valuable things than just power. Duvall is a good defender , in fact Duvall has a bronze hitter rating. Haniger is 30 points higher on his average , 60+ points in ops. Lowe has a higher average , is OPS’n over .800 and is an elite defender at second. If you’d like to make an arguement for Austin Riley I’m with you but Seager isn’t quite on the same level as the three examples you gave. Riley 100% is as he is hitting .293 25 bombs 70+ rbis and ops’n at nearly a .900 clip.

Is that the general perception, that Kyle is a mediocre fielder? I’m curious, because he is a gold glove winner and has more infield assists than many. By what metric is he mediocre?
Sometimes I think this is just a perception because he plays in Seattle and most of you don’t have the opportunity to watch him daily.
Defense is hard to measure, but on baseball reference, the top ranked 3b defenders (career active) are:
- Rendon
- Arenado
- Chapman
- Machado
- Longoria
- Kyle Seager
- Escobar
- Justin Turner
- Todd Frazier
- Travis Shaw

He is also the 28th ranked 3B in 2021 according to FB, career stats do not matter on a LS card. Dude is 33, his lateral movement is declining and he's slow.

Needs to hit righties better, he's barely above the mendoza line vs rhp. If his contact vs rhp went up, then he could go gold

Hit his 27th home run today. Yeah, pretty mediocre.

Seager is currently batting .179 in August. .218 on the year. For reference Derek Jeter won a gold glove and I dont think anyone is calling him a top defender. Also RBIs mean absolutely nothing to a players attribute. With the average he is hitting for he would have to be crushing homers at the Ohtani rate to get to gold.

How many other of the top home run hitters in the league have a silver LS card? Not too many. RBI are overrated? But wins above replacement are not? You guys are funny. How about average with RISP? You can’t win if you can’t score.

I'm not arguing that RISP and RBIs aren't important in baseball, of course they are but in the game there is no attribute that RBIs effects and RISP only accounts for clutch which is not an important attribute. -
All good. The replies confirm my suspicion. The perception that Kyle Seager is a mediocre player is pretty common. Hopefully that’ll continue long enough for Seattle to gain 3 more games on Oakland and Boston.

Seager could be anywhere from a 78-81, but I also think SDS takes BR into account sometimes when they ratings, and for that mode Seager is more valuable as a silver than gold. It’s like Tim Anderson and Xander Bogaerts, both could be between an 83-87 depending on what SDS wants to do.

29 home runs. 82 rbi. Not bad for mediocre.

30 home runs. Matches 2016 career high. 83 rbi. In 2016 Seager was an all-star.
But don’t worry. SD Padre Trent Grisham hitting .252 with 13 homers and 51 rbi is still a gold.
