Wander Franco..dud?

As of today Wander Franco is batting .105. So far the Rays have scored 13 and Franco is the only one in the lineup w/o a hit. They may need to shave about 40 points of that 99 Diamond.
Yes, small sample set but much bigger than his first game when he was being penciled in as a future HoFer.
-
He's the #1 prospect in baseball. I'm not gonna overreact whether he hits .400 or .100 for his first couple months. Some guys need to get sent back down and come back with a fire lit under their [censored] But either way it's way too early to judge him as a major leaguer
-
That was his Prospects card that is 99. His LS is only a gold. Like Kovs said above, way too early to judge based on 15 total AB's this season. He has yet to flourish.
-
Willie Mays started 1-24 with the only hit being a HR. He did okay.
-
Could go the way of Jarred Kelenec. He came up as the next great thing..dazzled..then fizzled. But he did go 0-39 after 1HR and 2doubles in his second game to deserve the demotion. I don't believe Franco is ever going to bottom out so low.

Kelenic is killing it again in AAA, most prospects don't come out swinging, you seem to write off prospects pretty fast
-
Well that settles it. The Rays should release him and he should be downgraded to a common.

This got me thinking. Why does this game put out all these cards for "prospects" so grossly over inflated? I mean, I get the marketing angle. But if anyone were to follow along and note up the top-rung these prospects hit it's never even close to the loosely strewn Gold/diamonds you see before they throw the first MLB pitch or swing a bat. Some of them will be life long minor leaguers. Yet they're getting shutouts in RS against some of the greatest major leaguers to ever play the game.
I would guess not one of this year's prospects ever live up to the card they've gotten. Throwing a 110 mph fastball or hitting 40 HR in Minor leagues just means you got potential. But, one old coach always said "you know what potential means..you ain't ever done it".

Because DD is a fantasy mode.

I get the argument but some people of fans of teams like that one up in Seattle that don’t have a lot of elite talent of real teams. Giving them false hope that there is talent in the pipeline not only allows them to use players from their team but also gives the rest of us a good chuckle when these guys debut and are just like the rest of the team or worse.

The most boring DD ever was in 2018 where only a few legends got 99s as immortals. I'll take variety with prospect cards everyday. Vidal Brujan was so fun to use last year and Ronny Mauricio is the same way for me this year. I love it.

Look at Vladdy Jr his first year. He’s sure proving the doubters wrong this year

I'm sure there might be one or two Future Stars or Prospects that come close to living up to their billing. Most won't ever play in MLB though.
Take Quinn Priester, currently one of the best Pitchers in DD. Yet he's never made it out of A+ and really hasn't done anything too memorable there. One Tommy John and, likely, he never does make it to MLB.
Does anyone know how/where/who/why the game makers decide to turn into the world's greatest pro player before they've proven they deserve to get a shred of notice?
Not trying to be negative, but it's just odd the players (you've never ever heard of) that are rocking the high Diamonds.
Someone said it's fantasy. Well, if it's fantasy let's just make the Pittsburgh fans happy and make their entire pitching staffs diamonds. At least they've all REALLY made it to The Show. The game is very generous with diamonds obviously.
Joking, I don't understand the formula I guess.

Trout started slow too. He turned out ok.

You want me to make a list of those that started slow and were done? Those that made it to higher minor league levels and absolutely tore it up, but couldn't hit Uncle Charlie or a 90mph slider in the Bigs. Google it. For every Trout that started slow and stuck there are 100 that started slow, got their single cup of coffee and disappeared into obscurity.
Well, they may have MLB the Show Diamond Cards they can brag to their grandchildren about I suppose. One consolation.
Just seems cheesy to be playing this game and collecting cards (great cards) of ballplayers we'll never see.
-
I haven’t used him because my OP’d cap is my SS but I have faced him every game since he dropped & haven’t given up a single hit to him. Dude is just not good.

Whoa… I was just making conversation because I lost a fantasy baseball season championship when Trout came up and didn’t hit like I thought he would. Wander and your post reminded me of it.
I think all the toxicity in this forum this year has people on edge. Cheers dude
-
I’m all for having prospects in the game but I think they should have a cap to their rating. Something like 85 or so. Make them useful early on, in BR and events. They shouldn’t be 99 and dominant in ranked like Cabrera is.
-
You would make a very poor GM if you made decisions on young players this quickly. Also as far as the cards go its fun to be able to play with the young guys you hear about all the time in the minors for your team. The cards are if the player reaches their absolute maximum potential which we can agree most won't but the cards need to be usable.

Well, no, I was just countering your statement. Trout, Rizzo, Bregman, Bryant, Rizzo all started slow and are still going strong. You are correct.
Just thought it wouldn't be a uncivilized thing to point out that's not the rule. It is the exception.
And, in fact, unless you're a minor leaguer that has unquestioned credentials, the MLB Gods really aren't patient with you. Go zero for 20 and your name is Joe Blow and you go away Joe.
Cheers right back at you mate. No hard feelings.
