So I’m trying to relive a memory here and find a certain group of people. 5-7 years ago, there was a mobile app called 9 innings, an app with the same name exists now but it’s not the same game.

I’m sure many of you guys played the game, but I’m looking for a specific group of people. See, the game had a built in forum called the HIVE.

In this community people found out how to jailbreak old android tablets and hack cards within the game, to create maxed out platinum cards with a stat distribution of +3 contact +51 power and +3 eye. These cards became known as ‘unicorns’ or ‘unis’ for short, their more common name.

Unis became like a currency in the community, people would often host giveaways due to the games great mailbox feature, but would also trade them for items on other games, such as coins in Madden Mobile 2015-2016 and cards in Topps BUNT.

We would refer to the users who could hack cards and create unis as “wizards” in the community and the somehow, despite theoretically having an infinite supply of unis, didn’t oversaturate the supply, so we had a pretty well regulated economy.

The game was created by a japenese company called com2us and they didn’t really care about people hacking the game, because most users would still purchase stars to expand their inbox size anyways (to hold more hacked uni cards).

Anyways that’s where I come in now, I was a very avid user in this community years ago, and am now looking to try and find people from the website, thinking maybe there’s some overlap with DD in MLB The Show?

Kind of just spitballing what I remember here, we also had “mon unis”, which were unicorn cards based off of a players “monster season” (as it was called in game), almost like a flashback card.

So like there might be a Derek Jeter card where the card says Derek Jeter’09 and represents a 2009 monster season.

There were also certain quirks that needed to be met for a card to be a uni. For a pitcher it would be Speed of Light, Iron Stamina, and Pitching Machine and for a batter it was like Heavy Hit, Slugger, and Defense Captain

Ok I just found some things through internet searches that make me think it was as early as 2013-14 and all the way into 2016.

2014-2015 would’ve been the prime era of uni trading, so about 6-7 years ago

Why are they called “unicorns”? Shouldn’t they be called “unihorns”? You know, on account of the fact that they wear tiny little uniforms in their one horn?

Hello, yes I remember this game very fondly and was a part of this community until the game completely changed and threw the hive out the window. I would play along with a friend of mine and I still remember the day he told me about unis and the hive. My username for that game was lozo244 and I believe I had either a tigers profile picture or an old pic of J.D. Martinez.

As you mentioned before, unis basically formed the economy around the game but somehow never over saturated the market. Eventually I went from having nothing but the cards I earned from actually playing the game, to a stacked card box and mailbox filled with these awesome hitters, pitchers, and even hacked cheerleaders! I recall fondly when I would run out of points from busting packs after being at the limit of 999,999,999 (or was it more I don’t exactly remember) and being able to sell a random uni on the market for the max price in a matter of seconds. I also greatly remember being able to do a few giveaways myself once I amassed my collection and it was so awesome to pass on the greatness that came with a uni.

I would love to find more people like yourself who remember the hive and this amazing game/time. I am hoping to compile some screenshots, stories, and opinions about the game in hopes of being able to churn out a YouTube video to help archive this period and hopefully help even more people remember how great the game was. If you go into your purchased section in the App Store, you might be able to redownload and play the 2016 version. I’ve been playing it a lot recently and, although the servers are down now and there’s no way to recover my old, loaded account, it’s still very fun to play even today.

Thanks for making this post, and I hope more people can respond to this with their memories of the game and forums.

It was truly brilliant how well the economy worked, I was ‘WonkaCandy’ but also had a couple other accounts on the HIVE, I believe they capped you at 2, so oftentimes people would pay other people for their accounts if they needed the inbox space. I remember pulling a relic in bunt and traded it for 15 unis of my choice, it was a really good time.

@KDClemson_PSN That’s awesome! I really hope as much attention can get brought onto this gem of a community that kind of got abandoned and left without the game they knew and loved. The more people talking about old 9 innings, the better (especially because there is hardly anything about the game or community anywhere other than gameplay online). My project is very much still in the infant stages of research and writing and I would hate to step on your toes creatively. I look forward to watching your video when it’s done and if you need any help I’d be happy to 🙂

Right now I’m just trying to find and talk to people. I’m thinking of old usernames that I recall like Drivr3Joe, Boxtooler, Tigerssquad, CarlosMesa, jmanjb8, and others and just trying to find people where I can

I started playing just after; but, now that we have Awards Series, Milestone, 2nd half, etc. doesn’t that take the place of what you are talking about?

I’m actually asking, not just trying to knock on you or what you are talking about.

Super late to the party here but I discovered this post looking up how to install this game again. I was Jarjar190 on the old hive I still have my phone full of unis and all that. I just picked the game back up playing on an emulation on my pc with unlimited points. All the "OG's" were in a facebook group chat thing a while back but it has been a while since it was active. I wish they would just open the servers back up on the old 2016 game that was a fun time!

I’m pretty sure I remember the name, I was 123KPD and WonkaCandy on the forums, were you able to get unis on an emulator?

Sadly not. I just play with a hacked APK that allows me to get unlimited coins. Not as fun as the uni days but just playing the game is still fun none the less!
