LS or not?

Hi, new xbox player here. I've been very lucky so far with packs and I have been able to lock the AL for minimum stubs. It was never my intention to finish the LS but packed trout and cole so it would have been stupid not to do so. I'm mainly playing RS but since I locked the AL, I find myself limited with the players I'm considering. For example, I don't see who will replace Ortiz and trout. To me, it's a bit of a bummer, especially with the amount of cards available that I'll probably never use.
Last night I pulled Acuna (!!!). I know I'll need a lot more stubs to finish the NL but I wonder if it's worth it? I can see Soriano, Chipper and Glavine (at least) being mainstays on my lineup for a while but I feel I would miss out on other players.
My question is later down the road, if I don't get the 99's, can I still compete with players I can buy/earn or will I be cheated? Playing at around 550-600 right now but with practice (just started using pinpoint), I expect to be able to make the jump to higher levels...

There will be lots and lots AND LOTS of 99 cards released between now and MLBTS22.
That said, Soriano and Chipper should be useable throughout the year, not to mention the other team/division cards you collect along the way will be used for the eventual Honus/Trout mid-year collection.

That is amazing pack luck, oh my god. But secondly the cards you get from the collection are good but for example in stage 3 and 4 TA's there will be many free 99's if you want to try them out. i would say the collection is worth it just becuase you get tons of cards, and if you dont like them its not that big of a deal due to the fact the best cards are usally free from inning programs and TA's

I have been extremely lucky so far! I wonder if I should be using those stubs to buy players I have a hard time getting, whether in specialty packs or behind RS or BR...I just hate that I don't have a lot of options once the cards are locked..

I would say just make sure you never go complety broke weather its just waiting a bit for prices to drop, or making a lot of investments in people that will get upgraded a tier.

I'm not an experienced DD player by any means, but the way I view it is flexible stubs are king. If you keep Acuna flexible, you can still use him in your lineup if you want or at least keep him in the bank until you see something come out that you want to use the stubs for you can sell him and do that. I would at the very least wait until the next content drop before locking him in and spending additional stubs to complete anymore collections.
To your main question - there should absolutely be plenty of cards come out down the road that you can be competitive with. They just may take some grinding to earn.
