When opponent pauses sometimes I can do stuff and sometimes I can't

So how come half the time I can also press start to do pause time activities like roster changes or bullpen stuff, and the other half I have to sit there and wait until my opponent finishes what he's doing so then I can pause and do my stuff afterwards. This must be a glitch right? There's no explanation anywhere and there's no imaginable reason why it would get made like that.

Quick pause vs pause. Quick pause only they can do things and use their own timer. Reg pause uses their own timer unless you also pause then it suspends their time while you are paused. If you unpause while they are still paused their timer will continue. If they unpause while you are paused your timer will tick.

Quick pause is "up" on directional pad.

I was wondering if when I hit up on the d pad it puts the ranked opponent in the quick pause. I use it to see the stats of the batter since it lags behind showing me the previous batter in the left corner.
