Need Help! Xbox Controller Not Turning On

I don't know where else to turn for this. I've been playing MLB fine today with my Xbox Series X controller, with no issues whatsoever. I took a break this afternoon and came back to it after a while, but now my controller won't turn on.
The batteries have not run out, they had plenty of juice last I checked this morning, and they are facing the right directions. They're Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries, so they have tons of life on them, and they're not corroded at all. I have never un-synced the controller from the console. I haven't dropped this controller once, so I know that can't be the issue.
I've tried turning the console off and on with no success. I've taken the batteries out and put them back in, tried blowing compressed air (to see if dust was the problem) and that didn't fix it either. Put the batteries into a battery life checker and it says they're fine.
When I press the Xbox button to activate the controller, it flashes as long as my finger is pressing it and doesn't flash when I let go. I hear a pathetic noise (like a firework whistle) when I press the button. It will not turn on, and I don't know what to do.
Can someone help?

Turns out it was the batteries. "Ultimate Lithium" my eye. Aren't ultimate if they don't work.

Do yourself a favor and buy a pack of rechargeable batteries and a charger. I’ve had the same batteries for a couple years in my Xbox controller.

Guess the Energizer Ultimate Lithium are not the best battery to use for controllers... work great with high-power flashlights though.

I’d just get the series 2 elite controller. Built in battery pack, and I can use it for days without needing to charge it. Plus if the batteries do die, you can always go wired for a bit while they charge
