Unrealism is unreal
-
The unrealism in this game is ridiculous. Several things right off the top strike me.
-
AI ability to hit foul balls and run my pitch count up. Opposing batters rarely ground out or fly out quickly. I easily get to an 0-2 or 1-2 count but then the BS kicks in. The AI fouls off the next 5 to 7 balls. Every inning is 15 to 20 pitches. Even if I purposely throw as far outside as I can, they still make contact. Every game I am replacing my pitcher in the 4th to 5th inning because the pitch count is in the 80s or 90s.
-
The amount of fielding errors. I can expect an error 1 out of every 3 to 5 throws to a base. No team has 3+ errors EVERY game. I use the pure analog control and simply flick the stick in the direction of what base to throw to. Outfield to infield, infield to infield, outfield to cut off... doesn't matter. I have 3 or more fielding errors every single game from throws going bad.
-
Diving / climbing catches. AI pulls off 80% of their diving catches. I have yet to complete a single one. The rule of statistics say that I should have completed one accidentally by now, but I come up short on every single dive.
For our only option for a baseball simulator they do a [censored] poor job of "simulating" realism. It would be like calling Twisted Metal a realistic driving simulator.

I have always found unrealism to be very unreal, too. But to answer:
-
This can be annoying but I only encounter it with one or two really pesky ABs per game. For the rest, get pitchers with better K rates, or try pitches that get higher swing/miss rates (inside FB, low changeups, sliders down/away).
-
Learn how to use Meter throwing and you’ll meter have another throwing error again. Analog and buttons have too much room for error.
-
The CPU will always be better at this, but you’ll get your moments, and when you do, it’s pretty cool.
If you’re looking for a pure baseball simulator, OOTP is great, it’s just not very graphics-based. This is a great-looking game that has some elements of realism.

I agree that the game isn’t realistic. I’m not sure they are trying to make it realistic though. They probably look around and realize most of the consumers don’t know what realistic baseball is and or just don’t want it. I’m with you though, I would prefer a realistic game.

If they made it realistic it would be a boring game wouldn’t it lol, have you watched a baseball game recently? Absolutely brutal. Strikeouts, walks, homeruns once in a while...
-
To the first point, that's actually very realistic.
Even the best pitchers these days have their pitch counts in the 90's by the 6th or 7th inning.
Nobody throws complete games anymore...
The days of Roy Halladay are over..
Nobody pitches to contact and nobody hits for contact in today's game. -
With button accuracy throwing I’ve been able to keep my errors to just my mistakes.
I’ve got a couple over the wall catches and I didn’t know how to save them for posterity.
The more I’ve used my pitchers the more 4-5 pitch strikeouts I get. Some are great others aren’t. Plus I’m hit or miss on the pinpoint.
It’s not ever going to be realistically realistic but it’s great for what it is.

@AlphabetOriginalPoster, like, to be honest dude; Just sounds like you’re not that good. Not to be mean or derogatory in any way but I’d say most of us don’t have these problems.
