MY REVIEW FOR THIS HORRIBLE TITLE
-
I really couldn’t put much more energy into this review than I did so any typo that’s here it’s cause I literally don’t care enough about this dumpster fire of a release to do much more but here goes:
Like many of the other 1 star reviewers I have played MLB the show for many years and loved it. Each game got progressively better and 19 and 20 were truly great releases. The show 21 is absolutely and without a doubt the worst show there is and it’s not even close. I’ll break it down.
Franchise mode:
The trade logic in franchise mode is so painfully broken I don’t know if they even tried to use it before releasing the game. Top prospects like Bobby Witt Jr get traded for garbage prospects with C and D potential. Plus the CPU makes a lot of dumbfounded trades like the one described competent ruining the experience. Also they’ve really added nothing new other than a purely visual depth chart that you can’t manipulate but can see into the future of your franchise in a game you barely want to play anyway because of how stale and broken it is.Road to the show (RTTS):
Possibly the most popular mode in this game is absolutely ruined. There is no improvement from the previous RTTS, in fact, they’ve over complicated a mode that was super fun to begin with. The training has been completely watered down and it has been made nearly impossible to progress your “ball player” effectively. You don’t even get quick challenges to participate in spontaneous training drills with the team that could boost your attributes, like what’s with that!? That was one of the more immersive parts of the career mode. Also, I believe there has to be an attribute gains glitch because my ball player will hit over .400 for the whole season and barely see any contact, discipline or vision gains which is frustrating to say the least. The storyline of being a two way player is extremely forced and shoved down your throat so hard it makes me nauseous. You can’t choose your own position instead you have to manage a horrible designed load out system that’s completely overthought and makes it apparent that they’re trying to do just too much over at the studio and need to center themselves on what an authentic career mode experience should look and feel like. They were on the right track with the personality traits from RTTS 19’ and 20’ but have completely dropped the ball here.Diamond Dynasty:
This will Segway nicely into DD because the game also forces you to play with your “ball player” in diamond dynasty so that you can upgrade him and he can be better in RTTS. Like what!? Who thought that was a good idea?!
All in all I’m not huge in diamond dynasty so I can’t really knock a mode I don’t pay attention to because of how meaningless it is to me. But the moments seem cool I’ll give it that.Additional glitches/complaints:
- no real prospects (where’s torkelson and the 20’ class!?!?
- server issues galore
- RTTS xp and base gain glitch
- Vaults completely unusable
- Challenge and Ballplayer XP not counting
- a slew of other things that are just so minimal that it can’t make the list among these other obvious things that need to be fixed.
Aside from the smooth gameplay and stadium creator. San Diego Studios? You’ve done nothing right here. This game needs a major overhaul and after boasting all off season about the improvements you’ve made to this beloved franchise. It’s time to open your eyes and fix your issues, or I promise I won’t buy another MLB THE SHOW title in my lifetime.

Weird how out of your entire review, gameplay (by far the most important part of every version of this game) got one small mention in a sentence...
Everyone plays different, so my experience differs from yours as I don't play franchise, or RTTS, but other than the brutal servers at launch, this game plays better than any show before it in my opinion.
And no real prospects? It's 1 week into launch!! There's already over 30 of them in DD.
Torkelson hasn't played a minor league game yet btw, which means he can't be in the game until he does. -
You lost me at 19 and 20 being great releases. They were both bug ridden messes.

I personally am not in DD so I chose not to bad mouth it too much. As for the gameplay, the show has a standard of smooth gameplay and the advance in tech has allowed for the gameplay to remain smooth and up to par with the tech available, so nothing outlandish there that’s why it was given a small sentence. Is that really the reason why Torkelson can’t be in the game? I’d really like to know why you think this game deserves more than 1 star though.

Yeah you’re right. This release didn’t deserve my coherence. It’s a rant about a broken game that should by all means not be broken. Pretty simply put.

In all fairness though, 20 with patches did improve, it was playing a helluva lot better after updates….
