Stolen base tips?
-
Need help being more effective at stealing bases. What I do to steal is this...
- Runner on 1st. I take a 1 step lead with L1. I aim the L joystick towards the base and tap L2 once the pitcher begins his motion.
Most times I still get thrown out. Any tips to be more effective or a higher success rate??

I'm in the same boat.
One obvious tip is get players with 80 speed or more. I just added Buxton to CF for that purpose.
I've heard people say when the pitcher takes that last look at you, take off. -
The worst is when you hold R2 the pitcher can still throw to 1B (offline Conquest). Last year you would hold R2, press L2 then R1 and release R2 and it worked 95%. Now sometimes the P will throw to first as I press R1, changing the screen from batter view to fielding, thus R1 from increased lead to advance runner; so instead of going back to 1B to beat the pickoff, the runner just takes off for 2nd. Dumb.

Something that may help is to have your fastest batter hit in front of the pitcher and have him hopefully get on first.
The pitcher will hardly ever pay attention to the runner on first and will basically never slide step or pitch out.

offline you can still, steal 2nd about 85 to 90 percent of the time. you have hold R2 when pitcher looks over. then L1 and then L2 then release. Last year it was 2 step lead.. now its 1. but the key is. it's only prompted when the pitcher looks over. but you have o time it right. Or you can still get picked off, or at least be thrown over to. But you can still use a runner with 74 and above speed to steal with.. takes some getting used too. good luck.

Against CPU. Wait for a 2 ball count. CPU doesn't slide step in 2 or 3 ball counts. Also slide to the outside of 2nd on the steal. Helps avoid the tag on the bang bang play.

Look at my post above; the P will pickoff while holding R2, so it’s definitely more risky, and the percentage is lower. I have a 99/84 CAP that I’m grinding and it’s more difficult than last year with say Larry Walker who was mid-70s.

Guess I get to impart some knowledge finally!
Hold R2 while pitcher has the ball, this whole time.
Left stick towards runner, you can try taking a lead step, but this year they will try to pick you off sometimes (though I haven’t been caught yet)
Still holding R2, hold L2 for about a second, you’ll feel it vibrate when it sets. This tells the runner to auto steal.
Now it’s time—as you let go of R2, start mashing L1, your runner will take off.
Holding R2 keeps the pitcher from pitching to home, but because you held it the whole time, he’ll pitch right when you let go of R2.
Works...almost all the time. Been failing me in moments for some reason, catchers seem to have unreal throws in there.

I'm not sure that R2 glitch works this year, but from your first post it seems like you aren't hitting L2 until the pitcher begins his motion. I think this is too late. You want to tap L2 before he begins his motion and hit L1 as soon as he does. And it helps to go when your batter is ahead in the count or if there's two strikes and you think a breaking ball is coming.

There was a glitch several years ago where I held either L2 and R2 the whole time and my runners took off perfectly every time. Can't remember it exactly...
